Excerpt:

March 10, 2012

Natalie Randolph is the only active female head high school football coach in the nation, and the third one ever to hold the position. Randolph, a track athlete at the University of Virginia, played six seasons for the DC Divas of the Independent Football League. However, before she was Calvin Coolidge High School’s head football coach, she was a Biology and Environmental Science teacher who was advised to apply for the coaching position when it opened in 2010. Since then, it has been a roller coaster of media, awards, and appearances for the female coach.

Randolph, however, has not been lost in the shuffle. She has used the media, money, and attention, not for herself, but to better the players that she coaches. She buys dozens of pizzas for tutor sessions she holds at her house, treats the boys to other snacks for football film sessions, and buys gallons of gas to drive the players up and down the East Coast for recruiting and college visits. Because of her selfless efforts, in her two years of coaching, the team’s grade point average has risen from a 2.6 to a 3.0, scholarships and secondary education have increased, and after going 4-7 her first season, this year the team finished 8-3.
