For the sake of argument, let's say the Bucs lined up in a 4-3 for every down in 2009. The two DE's on the field combined to play 2078 snaps and notched 17 sacks. That's one sack per every 122 snaps. In Chicago, Alex Brown totaled 6 sacks in 787 snaps, or one per every 131 snaps. So Brown actually performed worse than the Bucs DE's as a whole.

Just to update you guys on Brown's visit.

He had dinner with the Saints Brass last night as a meet and greet. It seemed to go well. They talked about what they see him doing on the team if he were to sign. Today they are supposed to talk numbers. I am hearing 4 years 10 million being thrown out there, but I do not know if that figure is a reliable number.

As a pass rusher White far outperformed Brown at RDE in 2009. At LDE, yes, I'm more than fine with Crowder and Moore in 2010 at LDE. Brown has never even played LDE. Starting Brown at LDE for the 2010 Bucs would be the equivalent of standing on 14 in blackjack. There's no upside. The only reason they should sign him is if they miss out on a top RDE of the future in the draft.

The Bucs are already exceedingly average. Ignoring Freeman's rookie growing pains, the only places the Bucs were below average in 2009 was WR1, RB, DT, NT, and SS. They already signed a new SS, already drafted the NT of the future, and will likely be drafting a stud at DT and a WR1 candidate. I don't know what they're going to do about RB. Another 6 sack per year DE is not the worst thing to have, but it's hardly a blip on the radar.
the de's were terrible.

Free agent DE Alex Brown is scheduled to visit with the Bucs on Thursday.

Brown is in New Orleans on Tuesday. The Saints can offer him a starting job on a contender while the Bucs can provide a safety net with the Tampa 2-style defense in which he's played for the Bears.

The Bucs will never sign a free agent if there is another team that is interested.  I expect He'll be a Saint by the end of the week.

He's basically a slightly better Jimmy Wilkerson.

Agree with you but the Bucs tend to be outbid when another team is interested.....

Got to love that the Superbowl Champs continue to look for ways to improve while we sit on the beach and watch another ship sail by. He would be a good addition to our defensive line which is the worst unit on this team.

I'd much rather spend our 4th rounder on CJ Wilson or George Selvie.
