Hellickson won the AL Gold Glove for a pitcher, tied with Jake Peavy.

You don't see too many ties for this award.  It's the first time for a pitcher.

Rays re-sign Joel Peralta to a 2-year, $6M deal with a team option for 2015.

In other news, Brooks friggin' Conrad signs with the Hanshin Tigers.  I suppose he won't be pinch hitting for legitimate Major League hitters any longer.

Well the Rays are 4th in the division right now if that trade goes through.

Yankees
Blue Jays
Orioles
Rays

When are the Rays ever going to not take the "moneyball" approach?

I don't know about that and the "moneyball" approach is what got us the past 5 years of good, competitive baseball, but it's time to acquire some quality bats

The Marlins are so horribly run.

Last year: Spend every last dime and hire a high profile coach. Fill the new stadium at all costs.

A year later: Fire sale and run for the hills, screw the stadium, let it burn.

Seriously, how do people that run some of these organizations get hired?

Just spoke with Charlie Manuel for about half an hour about baseball.  Talked about this trade, among a bunch of other things.  He likes what the Marlins did, just because he isn't a fan of Reyes' and Johnson's demeanor.

Oh, and he said he just talked with BJ Upton yesterday about playing in Philly.  He's not a big fan, but Amaro is - so we'll see.

Rays P David Price wins AL Cy Young

ST. PETERSBURG

There is a new king of the hill in the American League.

His name is David Price.

The Tampa Bay Rays left-hander received the American League Cy Young Award this evening as the top pitcher in the league during the 2012 season.

The award was voted on by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America and announced on the MLB Network.

Price was 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA. He led the American League in wins and ERA.

Detroit's Justin Verlander finished second, one season after winning the 2011 AL Cy Young Award and the AL MVP Award by winning 24 games and leading the league in wins, ERA, innings pitched and strikeouts. Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels, who tied Price for the AL-lead in wins, finished third.

Price, who finished second in the Cy Young voting in 2010, allowed two earned runs or fewer in an American League-high 23 starts. He had a 1.62 ERA in six no-decisions and twice pitched eight innings of shutout ball in what eventually became 1-0 losses for the Rays.

Price, 27, was 10-2 with a 2.51 ERA in 16 starts against the American League East.

He also won 13 games against teams with winning records, which tied him with Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels for first in that category.

Price is the first pitcher in Rays history to earn a Cy Young Award.

He joins Evan Longoria, Jeremy Hellickson and Joe Maddon as members of the team to receive postseason awards from the BBWAA.

Longoria was American League Rookie of the Year in 2008. Hellickson was AL Rookie of the Year in 2011. Maddon was named American League Manager of the Year in 2008 and 2011.

WOW! What an honor. Congratulations to David Price. Not surprised though, he has been a stud since Vanderbilt. Many more on the horizon for sure.

Watching ESPN U right now and they have AL MVP candidates rolling across the ticker and I have to wonder why the list doesn't start and stop with Miguel Cabrera?
