Bah, pure coincidence.

I feel less sorry for this kid every day ...

What is your point? I was wrong? Ok. You win. I was wrong.

The real tragedy is that this kid was allowed to be this type of individual.  At some point the parents have to take responsibility for the way he was raised.  If you can't handle the responsibility at least ask for help.  What's sad is some want to turn this into a race issue instead of addressing the real problem.

I don't know if he was a good kid or a bad kid or in between, but your post is exactly right on parenting. Poor parenting is the root of so many problems

Not being able to see what type kid he was is just burying your head in the sand.  The same problem some parents have.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.  I'm not saying the kid deserved to die but he was no choir boy.

He didn't appear to be, but we are only going off primarily media reports. He might have been a gang banger for all I know, but I don't know that for sure and I know even less about his actual parents.

With those caveats ( not hiding head in the sand - lol)? I agree completely on parenting. A friend runs a very successful program that takes a select number of incoming freshmen at an inner city high school and shepherds them through high school to graduation. What they do, essentially, if you boil it all down is they just create so many after school programs that the kids barely go home to their awful parents and awful home life. Essentially the program turns the school into a second home and the teachers into alternate parents

Your kids can vouch for that.

Why didn't the gun shop owner just put up a sign that says "VANDALIZE ME"?
