 It's about time.

Greg Schiano has walked the walk and escorted the vastly troubled – and overrated – Aqib Talib to the door.

It did not matter that Talib was about to come off suspension from testing positive for being a complete idiot, or that the Bucs could probably use him, given their defensive lapses, plus Eric Wright's troubles to boot.

No matter – the Bucs needed to boot 25.

Talib now belongs to the New England Patriots. The Bucs gave him up, with a seventh-round draft pick, and got a fourth in return. It's the Patriots who are taking the chance. After all, there are a lot more cabs in Boston.

This should have happened to Talib several run-ins ago. We all knew that, everyone but Bucs coaching and management, until this coach came along.

This move shows how badly Schiano wanted to dump Talib, despite the short-handed secondary.

Of course, we vaguely recall Schiano, about two weeks ago, saying the idea was to keep Talib.

"The plan is, again, to have him back here with us," Schiano said.

Was he simply laying down smoke, saying what he had to say – or lying?

Did the Bucs going 2-1 without Talib empower them to make this move? Or did the loss of Carl Nicks and probable looming loss of Wright tell the Bucs this season was done anyway and it was to time to get on with next season today and get what they could for 25?

Or is it simply that Greg Schiano means business … from Tanard Jackson to Kellen Winslow to Brian Price to Dezmon Briscoe and now Talib.

Also two weeks ago, I recall Schiano telling us the team would do what was best for the organization, best for the community, best for everyone.

"You've got to just trust us on this one," he said.

You might not believe anything he says after this, but, funny, you might trust him more this morning.

I'm just glad Talib is gone.

Yes, he was a prototypical corner – and a prototypical screw-up.

This team couldn't count on him. And he was never as good as he was supposed to be.

This was the right move no matter what Schiano got back for this clown, because to keep Talib meant Schiano would have owned anything Talib did from here out.

There's a point you move on, in the name of team building, if nothing else.

Bill Belichick, as secure in his job as anyone in football, has taken chances before, with Randy Moss (23 touchdowns in 2007) and Corey Dillon. OK, so Albert Haynesworth didn't work out in New England or, later, when the Bucs picked up Big Albert.

The Patriots are desperate. They're 28th in the NFL in pass defense (the Bucs are 30th). Maybe Belichick turns Talib into a star. Fine. He'll mess up again. Count on that.

On the other hand, it's never too late to mildly second guess the last Bucs draft.

Remember, they traded back to seven to draft the clearly talented safety Mark Barron (an easier position to fill) and the Cowboys jumped up to take LSU's Morris Claiborne – the top cornerback in the draft.

We wondered about it at the time.

Clearly the Bucs gambled on Talib.

They lost.

This might not seem like banishment to some people. Aqib Talib has been dumped to … a contender. He'll probably get a playoff share. He has half a season to show he deserves another contract.

That's what's so funny about this cat: 2012 was his contract year . The guy will never get it.

The Bucs are a better team today, at least in the long run. This was the right move.

The wrong move was giving this guy another chance in the first place.

It's about time.

Wait until they see Brady shred Talib in practice...they may think twice about what they gave up for him....the guy hasn't played well in quite some time and has never really impressed me at all. He was never consistent at anything except being a menace to society.

There will be plenty of good corners in the draft that we can draft next year ... one's who can actually read at a 3rd grade level.

No. If we stay put at 5, We don't get that 4th round pick that we trade to Denver to move up for Doug Martin. Is Claiborne worth Barron + Martin? Nope.

Also, what is up with "oh Schiano lied, you can't believe anything he says"? Since when are members of the media/punlic entitled to knowing everything being dine behind the scenes? Does he expect Schiano to come out and say "Talib screwed up again because he's and idiot and we're trying to get rid of him"? No. He handled it discreetly and with class. And who's to say the intent at the time wasn't to keep Talib? People are stunned we got a 4th, maybe the deal was just too good to pass up.

Obviously yes. Claiborne has been outstanding here in Dallas and Barron looks like he's a guy who, like people thought, is a good run supporter with issues in coverage, Winning the run game has helped us beat teams like KC and MIN so I guess if you want to beat bad teams we made the right move.

But Claiborne didn't complete his Wonderlic test. Do you want a guy like that on your team?

If the Patriots have a halfway decent DL, then DBs like Talib will play better. Our DL sucks with QB pressures. QBs practically had all day to throw the ball. Hard to blame DBs for not being able to cover WRs indefintely during a play.

Draft Alfred Morris in the 5th round.   He's a better back than Martin anyway.

Considering that Martin just led all NFL players in yards from scrimmage in only his second month in the league, this looks like a really stupid comment java.

The title should have read: "In Hindsight.....Should the Bucs have made a better CB signing in Free Agency"

I still like the Barron pick and what it ended up meaning for the Bucs in the long haul.  It directly effected us getting not only Doug Martin, but Lavonte David as well, both good choices in my opinion. 

Looking back at the draft, I think our picks had less to do with really wanting  Barron and more to do with Schiano assessing Claiborne as a problem that wasn't going to fit in on his type of team.  Again, my opinion, but I think what we managed to come away with in our first 3 picks will end up being a great decision, even though Claiborne appears to be a great player.  He just isn't a Schiano type cornerstone guy.
