Funny. You hear these players in interviews and such, and they seem to realize this is a business....

On second thought, Freeman is only 24. He may not have caught on yet. Coddle away.

The contract it will require to sign Freeman will be very bloated due to the ridiculousness that is today's free agency

unless of course one goes with heavy incentives at a decent annual value - for more years...

That would be ideal, but it seems like agents try to avoid those deals as best they can.

both an excellent gm and concerned about how his starting qb is thinking/feeling

I think if he was concerned about Flacco's feelings, he'd have signed him when he first started griping about his contract....prior to last season, IIRC. Fact is he'll sign him when he feels Flacco is worthy of doing so and wasn't gonna let the contract yr nonsense sway him into doing it sooner than he needs to.

I thought Lovie said he wanted quickness & speed, even at the QB position?

I agree.  He is going to get more than his WR who just signed a 5 year/ 55 million dollar deal.

Have you not seen the $$ given to less accomplished QBs in recent years?

The contract it will require to sign Freeman will be very bloated due to the ridiculousness that is today's free agency

So what is your estimation of what his average salary would be?

Mark Sanchez: 5 years $58.25million
Joe Flacco's Deal (This contract will be key to Freeman's negotiations)
Phillip Rivers: 7 years $98.25million
Jay Cutler: 5 years $49.77million
Ryan Fitzpatrick: 7 years $62.195million
Kevin Kolb: 6 years $63.5 million

Those are some of the contracts they will probably use as a negotiating basis.

Obviously a little less than Phillip Rivers.

So I'd say somewhere in $10.5million-$11.5million range

like i said, 10-12.....and maybe more if you take 'potential' into account.

I agree with ya.

I also think it could creep up into the $13mil-$14mil range if Freeman was allowed to hit the open market. That would infuriate me if we didn't get any compensation for the guy.

I agree. If he has a decent year next season, he will ask for more that what his final year is on his contract, which maxes out at  $9.76 mil.

There is no reason financially to resign him early. The risk that we might be signing just an average QB, outweighs the risk that he would get his feelings hurt.
