Age / DOB:   (25) / 7/14/1987

Ht / Wt:   6'3' / 214

  • 2013: Free Agent

The Miami Herald confirms that CB Sean Smith is likely to reach free agency without a deal in place with the Dolphins.Smith and his agent are using Jason McCourty's six-year, $43 million contract as a baseline in negotiations, and plugged-in columnist Armando Salguero considers that too pricey even for the cap-rich Dolphins. Per Salguero, the Fins view Smith as more of a "good player" as opposed to a "game changer or playmaker."

43 mill is too much for him. Would like him here if he brings that price down.

Very underrated CB. Would love to see us bring him in.

If they tag him, they'd have to pay 10.6 million, which would likely be even harder to swallow.  I think he could really flourish in our system, especially with another physical CB opposite him.  He's only 25 and has the size to match up with Julio Jones and the other big WR's the Bucs may face.  He's got lots of starting experience and has a competitive attitude.  As far as I know there are no character or major injury concerns, either.  Out of this year's free agency class, he seems like he should be the #1 target for the Bucs.

60 million for one 43 million for another.... I don't know man these guys are asking teams to tie up a whole lotta money. It seems like the draft is a better option, or maybe lower level FAs??

It's market value.  IMO he's a better CB than McCourty, so we can blame the Titans for overpaying and screwing it up for everyone else.  It's also comparable to Wright's contract, too.

Sign this dude.

He is looking for 7mil per, if my math is right?  [been drinking a bit tonight]

Revis wants 14mil per.  Smith may not be quite as good as Revis, but for half the money?  Hell ya.

Here's a little tidbit I loved to read.  I know a lot has changed since this game, but it still sounds good to me.  As far as I can tell, the two haven't faced each other in the NFL...yet.

"In the Sugar Bowl, Smith easily manhandled super freshman receiver Julio Jones of Alabama."

The Dolphins are crazy for letting him go, I hope Dom is interested.

I hope he's spent this last week chatting up Smith's agent.

Better value than Revis,  if you consider age, health history, and salary demands.     IMO

Impressive.        And if anything has changed,  you would think its Smith getting better.

Isn't that how much Wright makes? Just cut him and give the money to Smith.

Wright actually made more.  His 5 year 37.5 mil contract averages 7.4 mil a year.

Smith is looking for 6 years, 43 mil.  Which averages 7.1 mil a year.

Please please please

I'm sold.

Get Smith and draft Milliner, Banks or Rhodes in the first. Boom.

The quest for .500 begins...
