TAMPA --

Chris Hovan, a former nose tackle for the Buccaneers, has joined the Tampa Bay Storm as defensive line coach.

Hovan spent last season at the University of South Florida working with the strength and conditioning staff. He came to USF as an intern in 2011 after an 11-year NFL career.

Hovan was signed by the Bucs as a free agent in 2005 and started at nose tackle for five years. He was a first-round pick in 2000 of the Minnesota Vikings and was named an All-Pro in 2002. He retired in 2010 after one year with the St. Louis Rams.

"Chris has proven on the field he has what it takes to be successful as a defensive lineman," Storm coach Dave Ewart said in a statement. "Now he will be able to take all the knowledge and experience he has accumulated and pass it on."

Hovan joins a staff that includes offensive coordinator Lawrence Samuels and defensive backs coach Doug Kay.

The Storm open their Arena Football League schedule March 23 against the Jacksonville Sharks at the Forum.

He looks odd to me without his war face on.

Turn the page.

He's always been a good buy.  Wish you well Chris!
