Ratings have been tough. According to Arbitron, Inc., WHFS average share of listeners across its entire broadcast day has dropped 41 percent; from a 1.7 when it was known as Play 98.7 in January 2012 to a .7 in January 2013.

Now as a sportstalk station, 98.7 trails leader WDAE by almost 3:1.

98.7 is a snorefest especially on the drive home after 6pm.   The morning drive is somewhat bearable at times - sometimes its not so good. The Sports Babe show after 7 is a trainwreck.

Shelton was actually the most knowledgeable guy on their station - now gone. Guess the writer to radio host experiment didn't work like it is working for WDAE with Jones and Stroud (very good radio, imo).

That's a shame about 98.7's ratings. Has it picked up since Rome came over? I'm not a big Rome fan, but I thought his presence might get more listeners for the station.

There\'s a very real chance the Bucs waive [Revis] before next season. At the very least, it will be a discussion worth having.

I was very disappointed when I found out Gary was gone. I used to love listening to just the Commish, but I have found him to be lacking in substance this past week with Gary gone.

agree - he and Gary seemed to feed off each other....initially I thought The Commish could carry the show on his own, but when Gary was there, The Commish became more of a interviewer and didn't really give his own take - hope things turn out okay for him at that sinking ship

Yeah Justin was the passionate host and Gary was the calm "expert." It was a nice balance. Part of me feels like it might have had to do with him bringing up Munchkin Sex on that last day lol

I only caught part of the show today and noticed that TKras was hosting, and last week the big dog was talking about contract issues or something. Anyone have any info on the situation?

I caught the tailend of Cowhead on Friday saying something about Duemig being mistreated. And Cowhead tends to hate the guy

In case anyones interested, until 5 years ago Duemig used to dominate the tampa radio market with constant #1 ratings in his time slot. Hes been consistently in the 20s for a long time now

Cowhead and DUImig made up awhile back so take it at face value.   DUImig to the 3:00 slot on 98.7?    Lord help us.

987 has a clear signal and respects their listeners.  Duemig sounds like static and disses his listeners.  Duemig can go suck an egg.  A nice, static filled egg.

Yea and 98.7's afternoon show has a 0.1 rating. In fact the entire station is failing epicly

Didn't see this thread, but just asked in the other if a move to 98.7 was on the way?  I'm not a fan of the guy.  Think he is an arrogant hypocritical d'bag.   Rants and stirs crap up over talking intelligent sports, but 98.7 is struggling big time and his boy Jerry Petuck is over there.

The problem is, 98.7 has no personalities. Nobody draws listeners. 102.5 made the switch to an all talk FM station around the same time as 98.7, and 102.5's ratings are through the roof with every show being rated #1 while every 98.7 show is in the 20s. 102.5 has a Howard Stern type format, and thats what people wanna listen to. Not boring yucksters on 98.7.

-Shelton was knowledgeable but not very personable and obviously that trait hurt him on the radio. He also was a cornball and had no personality.

-Dinger and those guys are boring as can be.

-Justin is more of a "morning zoo" type cornball yuckity yuckster than  a sports guy. Hes knowledgable but not a very compelling voice on the radio. Boring

-I like Booger, but he needs a better partner

- Rich Herrera wasnt liked as the Rays postgame guy, and in his second life in this town I think hes a little better but another corny old boring white guy

- Todd Wright was the best and getting the best ratinjg and he got let go a few weeks ago LMAO

- sports babe makes me want to ram pencils in my ears

This station made crucial programming mistakes. Should have Booger, Shaun King and Toby David, Lynn Austin and Roxanne Wilder bigger roles maybe even a show together, JP Peterson, and this station would deffinitely have improved ratings....<---those are all more compelling personalities in this area who have proven success in this market. What are you thinking 98.7?
