"Barely played" tells you quite a bit.

Tells you nothing except they had 10 linebackers and are a young team. It's hard to get everyone a lot of touches in preseason, especially when the 3rd game is almost all starters. He had two preseason games and played a small amount late in the games....just like 1000 other guys. Doesn't mean he sucks.

Plus, every other linebacker on the Dolphins roster is big. They are all about 6'2" 250lbs....so chances are Clay was just not a good fit for their defense because he is undersized at 5'11" 233lbs.

Our defense however can use a quick, undersized sure tackler with natural instincts.

Sure, but realistically he'd be a practice squad option.

At first, for sure. Too late in the offseason for a rookie LB to come in and be of any use on the final 53....but he could be ready to go mid season if needed or next year if not.

I truly believe that this guy went undrafted due to a lack of height, not a lack of ability. Could be a gem. Can't think of 9 guys on the current roster that would be better options for the PS.

I would think if he played special teams real well, they'd have kept him.
Ya could be right that his size didn't fit their ideal profile for a LB. We're one of the few teams who still value smallish LBs. Gotta be exceptionally quick to avoid head-on blocks tho'...
Dang, the old Lombardi Packers had Dave Robinson (245)  and LeeRoy Caffey (250) as their starting OLBs back in the mid '60's...
