Don't mean to detract from the derailing of the thread again and instigating issues with blatant personal attacks, but ...

"Around 2008, his older brother Tamerlan confided to his mother that he felt like "two people" were inside of him. A friend had suggested to her that he might need a psychiatrist, but his mother instead pushed Tamerlan deeper into Islam in hopes it would cure his inner demons and growing mental instability."

Yes sir, nothing cures mental instability like a good dose of religious fundamentalism.

CVS won't either. At least in the Boston metro area. Word is that they put Charles Manson on their cover decades ago and that ended up being a top-seller.

Go figure why Americans do what they do.

USA today, genius.

to the story.

you are an unwitting pawn in their marketing strategy . . . just saying . . . they put out a controversial cover, outlets like USA Today cover it as "news" and people "complain" about it on FB and on message boards etc . . . . Mission Accomplished

don't really need to be that smart to figure it out, but I appreciate the compliment.  ;)

That's a huge stretch and could be said about any news outlet reporting a news story. Geez, you're ridiculous.

Very quick search:

"There seems to be no limits as to what is permissible in the name of selling more papers. The fact of the matter is, not 24 hours after news of Rolling Stone’s cover was released more than 30 major outlets have published stories about the controversy sparking hundreds of thousands of social media comments – many from people threatening to cut their subscription.

One comment on Rolling Stone’s Facebook feed fumed, ‘This cover makes him look like some kind of cool rock god… it’s horrible. Why give the guy the cover of Rolling Stone?…. Don’t make martyrs out of these people.’ Meantime, another commenter responded with “Haven’t you ever heard? Don’t judge a book by its cover. No sane person thinks this guy is a rock star.”

So does the image of a murderer – especially when juxtaposed with that keyword “Monster” - repel or compel people?

Probably a little of both. But of course, it doesn’t really matter. As the old adage goes, “There is no such thing as bad publicity.”

Morally abhorrent or not, the face of a murderer festooning magazine covers guarantees a spike in interest. And there’s still two weeks before the magazine goes to press!"

The photo is a release of a coming August cover.  Without looking, what was the cover of the July issue? Did Rolling Stone release the July cover early?  Maybe, not sure. When was the last time Rolling Stone was discussed on these boards? "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about" - Oscare Wilde.

Get the point . .  .a simple markating adage -- "the no such thing as bad publicity."  May not work out for them, but dont kid yourself into thinking it was NOT intentional and not thought out and that you were not part of the plan.
