all ive found is a "serious" knee injury in NY.   in dec 2010 - Dr. Michael Kelly, the chairman of department of orthopedic surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, said the recovery period from surgery involving articular cartilage can be lengthy because the cartilage has no ability to regenerate itself. Kelly said the articulate cartilage helps cushion the bone.

"If articular cartilage surgery is performed, depending on the surgical procedure itself, the recovery involves limited weight bearing, so an extensive period on crutches, and then limited impact activity, such as running for many months," Kelly said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It depends on what they do, the size and location. It all influences the recovery significantly. No matter how you do it, it takes awhile."

then the eagles IR'd him for a "bone bruise" in his knee.  not sure about his play in STL.

Smith hasn't been the same since the ACL injury. Yes...the same injury the Bucs have a few players returning from including their star CB and 1st round DE.

At around the 2:14 mark, the doctor says "he did have that area on the cartilage on the outside, so it's going to take a little longer to heal." Not sure if it's the same thing, just pointing it out.

You guys are right. I read too fast back when he had the injury. Smith had microfracture surgery for Arterial Cartilage damage which isn't the same as an ACL injury. Recovery is also difficult and Smith has proven that. He's not a guy I think the Bucs should put a ton of faith in but maybe they get lucky.

Man this guy has been superglued, duct taped, and wired tight.  He ain't the bionic man, either.  I wonder how much of his shift and elusivness has...well...evaded him.
