2012-2013 Final NFL Free & Strong Safety Rankings

By Thom Cunningham

May 03, 2013 8:17 am

This article ranks the top safeties following the conclusion of the 2012-13 NFL season.

There are currently 40 ranking spots based off of the qualifications required for each safety, although others that qualify could not make cut.

These rankings do not reflect a player's longevity, but rather focuses on their overall talent and success during the recent season.

These rankings also will not reflect on the entry season rankings for the beginning of the 2013-14 season.

*(R) - Denotes player's rookie season*

The stats taken into consideration when determining these rankings include the following:

- Tackles, assists, sacks, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, interceptions, passes defended, team record, postseason resume and defensive touchdowns.

Other tools and sources used to determine these rankings include NFL.com, StatsLab and the overall outcome of the 2012-13 season.

Gholdson gets overlooked a bit, with all the Revis goings on.  But I think he has a huge season coming up.

\\\\\\\"Java, do you understand this a perfect example of why people beg me to suspend or ban you on a daily basis? Are you actually trying to make a point? Seriously what is the reason for even commenting. In fact why do you even bother coming to the boards? What happened to the intelligent poster from years ago?  A real shame. Like the Bucs yesterday, a wasted effort.\\\\\\\"

This is an awful methodology to build this around cumulative tackles, splash plays, and team success.

FRG is the most logical poster on this board.  You guys just don\'t like where the logical conclusions take you.

An argument could be made that Jairus Byrd should be #1.

Barron was probably left off by accident. Should probably be in the 17-19 range.

Until preseason, you stay classy Red Board.

His team didn't make the playoffs. Obviously he isn't as good as the safeties who played in the postseason.

Byrd, Weedle and Thomas should be in the top five.

How does Stevie Brown not make the Pro Bowl?

Who knew how good it would feel as a fan when we now know what it\'s like for our team to have a direction, an attitude, and dare I say an offense?.

Good time to be a Bucs fan.

Cant wait to see our duo play this year. Especially with Revis and Banks as the starting corners. Wow is that an improvement over the guys we had last year. If they arent at least ranked in the top half for pass defense, then something isnt right.

Barber #22? some fans want him gone. Not to mention that was him playing out of position.

I still can't believe we're ranked 20th in most power rankings. We literally didn't lose anyone on offense, minus Dallas Clark, and have huge and I mean huge upgrades in our very weak secondary.

That speaks to me how little faith the media has in Josh Freeman.

My bad.  I have been getting my Goldson / Gholstons mixed up.

Its Dashon Gholston right?  And William Goldson?
