Bucs weren't eliminated until after 7pm Week 17. We needed to win, which we did, and needed Bears to beat Packers and Redskins to beat Giants. Redskins had ball down 3 and Bears had ball down 7 at the exact same time late in the game.

And Saints legitimately tried to win that game.

IIRC weren't we in control of whether we made the playoffs or not with a couple of weeks to go?  What a let down.  Some of the posters on here have been a Bucs fan longer than me but not many.  Those of us that lived through that nightmare would probably agree that we may not be the favorite to win the SB this year at least we have some reasonable hope of a winning season and a playoff spot.  Most on this board have no idea about this franchises worst seasons except what they've read or heard about them.  i will say this though it's not like we only sucked in the 70s & 80s.  Hears to better days ahead.

There's no way they were in control if they won out and still came in 8th.  You may be thinking of '08?

It was exciting because it was the youngest team in the league and was in the chase for playoffs pretty much till the end. Anybody didnt have fun that year are purely Debbie Downies. I like to win as much as the next guy but this is the NFL. My life don't depend on it.

That's a good thing since you're a Bucs fan you'd have been dead a long time ago.

Lol I know they had their rough times but this is my time away from it all. I try to enjoy it as well as possible.

Those numbers kind of surprise me.  It's actually about 60% of our seasons are winning.  You may be good with that but it just don't do it for me sorry.  I haven't jumped ship yet and I doubt I ever do but I sure would like to see a winning tradition in Tampa.  Starting this year!

If we would have beaten DET in week 16, we are 11-5, one more win than the SB champs GB. We would have been #5 if my memory doesnt fool me here, but #6 for sure.

Some games work out, and others do not. Same with seasons, playoffs, and superbowls.

The trolls were never "right." It's a game of inches, luck, and teamwork.

And at that particular time, they were playing well, and it's not like we didn't see another glimpse of that this past season either.

But was that a fluke too? Hardly.

Naismith was right about Revis. Everyone else is a dummy.

Yeah. It's crazy to think if they hadn't stole that Winslow TD from us (and the NFL admitted they were wrong later) we could have been in the playoffs at 11-5 and the Packers would not have been....which means no matter what we did in the playoffs, Greenbay never win a SB that year. Butterfly effect is strong.

The first row is the average age of the Bucs since 2005.  The second row is the age of the Super Bowl winners.  Bucs had an average age of 27.1 for our winning year in 2002.
The bolded ages are the lowest averages.

I know this is counter to a lot of opinion, but experience counts.

That doesn't matter.  Anything can happen when you're YOUNGRY.

The season itself was exciting, didn't officially get eliminated from the playoffs until the last possible minute....... That said however, the fall out from that year has been wild. Free's only winning season as starting QB, damn fine one too for him statstically speaking. I would venture a guess that had that season ended 8-8 or worse, we'd be going through a total regime change in 2012, not just the head coach. Rah, Dom, and Free probably get the boot. Dom and Free's careers hang on by the thread that was 2010. Crazy.
