Dungy got fired for waaaaaaaaaaaaay less then this........

Dungy had 6 full drafts and 6 years of good salary cap to screw up. How anyone can say Dungy got fired for way less is beoynd me. Gruden will have his 3rd year of full drafts and have good salary cap for the first time in 4 years. If he screws up his full drafts and pisses his salary cap away I will agree with all of you. But do any of you bother to look at whats going on or do you just watch the product on the field and say Gruden is horrible? Id like to let the guy have a chance to put teh same talent no the field teh rest of the league gets and then decide whether he sucks or not

Bull.   Dungy continually underachieved in the playoffs and lost to teams with less talent.   That Buc team was most likely the most talented in the NFL and to be losing in the first round of the playoffs every year was FAR worse than this year's team losing to a more talented Giants team.

Losing 2 #1's and 2 #2's had to hurt at some point. You would expect at least 1 impact player and 1 solid player at the worst. But how bad is the Oakland front office when they gained these extra picks in addition to what they had and are still a bad team.

And two number one's for Keyshawn, and a #1 and #2 for Pinyatta, and the cap implications of Booger's bloated salary. Well, this coming year the cap problems will be much reduced and they'll have and extra high draft pick or two, so let's see how they do with that.

Dal, between 1997-2001 it is hard to find 3 teams that were better from that time. Even with the problems on offense. the defense was the best of its era, and Dunn and Alstott werent bad either. THe Ol was atleast as good as it is now. Either way, Dungy had full drafts and the ability to throw huge contracts at Booger, Rice, Gramatica, Bard Johnson, Brooks, Barber, Keyshawn, etc. When Gruden gets an opportunity to spend money like that, and have drafts like that and he still loses on wild card weekend then I will blame him more than I do now

Dungy blew it, plain and simple. He blew it because his offensive philosophy did not mesh with the team he had. He stated over and over again that he wanted his team to "play close enough to be able to have a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter". All the while he was sitting on one of the league's best defenses.

When you have such a dominating defense as they had under Dungy, and you have a Dunn-Alstott combo in your backfield and a smart QB like Brad Johnson and a strong veteran receiver like Keyshawn, you go out there and you open that offense up a little because you know if they make mistakes your defense will keep you in the game and give you more chances than the opposition, you don't hide in your shell and play not to lose.

Dungy played not to lose. While that may work in the regular season, it doesn't work in the playoffs.

Welll I agree accept the Johnson part. Johnson was only here for one of Dungys years, and in Dilfers time here he continually made mistake after mistake that cost this team games. I cant blame Dungy for sticking with Dlfer, or for Dilfers dumb moves

Seems to me Dilfer was the QB for a Super Bowl championship. Perhaps that's because his coach had a dominating defense and wasn't so afraid of those Dilfer mistakes.

And 90% of everyone expected the Raiders to wipe the Bucs off the field. Who cares? Gruden got it done in the postseason, Dungy did/could not.

"Probably never.  Under his watch, the team went from looser to a respectable winner.  Many seem to have forgotten pre-Dungy."

There is no pre-dungy. There is Culverhouse and Glazier.

The Glazers need the most credit in turning the franchise around. Dungy under Culverhouse would have never achieved what he did under the Glazers. Good coach, but not good enough to overcome the previous owner.

Dungy will never win a Super Bowl, get over it he's gone now he's winning with Jim Mora's team. If there is a better coach out there this off season Gruden should be fired.

He is winning now with payton manning and probably the most explosive Offense ever put together.

Dungy is gone and not coming back.. Gruden is not going to get fired cause there is not a good replacement out there..

Charlie Wise is not a good replacement cause he hasnt done anything at ND! Win a national championship.

really? did he?  don't think so.  And just wait all you Dungy lovers.  All is chummy right now at 7-0, but when they lost in the playoffs the talk started ... thats all it took was for him to be questioned.  It opened a can of worms ... so wait and see what happens in the playoffs ... if they go 1 and out ... better watch out.
