Build an offense around Simms?  Not even Martz can cure the batted balls.

Sure he can, he throws long passes off 5 and 7 step drops. He's gonna get his QB so far away from the line you can't bat the balls. He's got a whole different scheme than Gruden. Frankly, Martz is a guy Simms should be working with just as much as Grads is a guy who needs to be working with Gruden.

Simms will still have batted balls because he doesn't recognize the concept of passing lanes and he also takes WAY too long to make his reads and his windup is so slow.  It's not that easy to fix.

Why should Fischer get the BOD when Gruden also has had to deal with a complete rebuilding?  At least Fischer has had a lot of top 10 draft picks.

If the Glazers make a splash move by bringing in Martz just to placate the fans things might get a lot worse before they get better.  The defense is the biggest problem right now by far.

Gruden is having to deal with ONE rebuilding period.  Fischer had to deal with TWO and he lost a very good QB in McNair.  Is anyone asking for Griese/Brad to come back? 

I can see why Martz may not be the best fit but you must remember a few things about Martz.  Martz's downfall with the Rams was primarily becuase of the fallout with the front office (Eg. Gruden versus Rich Mckay) and the fact that he lost a very good DC in Lovie Smith.

If Martz has a good DC that can run the Bucs style of defensive play and Martz runs the offense then it would be what we envisioned with Gruden.  Gruden running the offense and Monte running the defense.  Martz covets players that fast on offense and defense.

But Martz also covets players that are smart and do not make many mistakes.  If a player has a case of the dropsies Martz benches players for that!

The real question is, how close is the offense to getting significantly better and what coach (Gruden or someone else) can make that happen the soonest.

If you bring in Martz there goes Cadillac (he is anything but a good receiver at this point).  So who's going to play QB?  Simms?  There's no guarantee the Bucs will even be able to keep Simms (do we match any offer?).  Is Martz going to come in banking on being able to correct Simms problems?  If we retool the offense around a Martz philosophy we need a lot better pass protection.  That's not something you just build overnight.

I would argue Gruden has the best chance to get this offense over the hump in the short run.

On  defense, hopefully a few key FA pickups and some good day 1 draft choices will allow Monte to quickly reload and get back in the top 10.

And that's with an easy schedule and they play in a poor division (except the Bears).

considering Fisher lost his defense (Samari Rolle, Dyson, Carter, Godfrey, ect.) and his offense (McNair, George, Wycheck, Mason, ect.) I'd say he's done a decent job with a mess of a situation (and lack of WR talent)

Imagine if Martz actually had talent to work with.  Gruden's best year so far in terms of offensive output is right where what Martz is producing now on offense with the Lions.

Yes Gruden has the best chance of putting this offense over the hump in the short run but Martz may provide a spark in the short run as well that may excite some of the ticket holders and fan base.

When you take a deeper drop and the receivers run routes that spread out more the passing lanes open up.  Martz' offense is designed to open up the window throwing lanes a bit by play design and by the players running routes smoothly.

Look at the number of sacks the Lions have yielded this year.  Simms wouldn't last 5 games with that kind of heat.  he just can't take it physically.
