So a 4 team playoff should be 50% SEC teams?

It should be the four best teams in the country, no matter what conference they are from.

That's always argumentative (who the best 4 is) and that is how you would relegate the regular season meaningless for the most part.

Yes, it is.  As I said earlier, the 5th and 6th team will whine, but in the end there would be a no-doubt champion.

I don't think the NFL's regular season is meaningless.

I don't see how a small playoff, or some kind of +1 game is a bad idea?

NFL is a 32 team league not 119.  The division winners get into the playoffs in the NFL also.  People don't decide that this team was playing better at the end of the season than that team so we're going to go ahead and put them in the playoffs/championship game, etc. and disregard that other team's season just because we don't think they are good enough.

That still doesn't explain how a college playoff system would make the regular season meaningless.

I don't care if you to make the playoff bigger by saying each BCS conference champion gets in and then have a couple of at-large selections for an eight-team playoff, but that is a lot farther away for the NCAA than just a +1 scenario.

You don't see how taking a 3rd/4th place team from the SEC over a team that won their conference championship into a 4 team playoff makes the season meaningless?   Really?

Not if that team is better than said conference winner, no.  Unless you are saying the regular season would be meaningless for those that don't have a shot at the title?

What conference champion are you referring to?

THat's exactly what I'm saying.  It's already been decided that the Big Ten, Big East and perhaps the ACC are too weak to have a legitimate champion.   Why play the season?

The one(s) that UGA would have replaced in your scenario.

Nobody expected Georgia to be as good as they were before the season.  The season played out, and they proved themselves to be one of the best teams in the country....especially the way last season unfolded.

The regular season still would define who would get into the playoffs.

OK.

The regular season would never be meaningless if there was a playoff scenario, wins would still be good and losses would still be bad.

apparently not since we're ignoring UGA's losses to South Carolina and Tennessee in your scenarios.
