Brooks. And I'm guessing it wont even be a competition in camp. But...hopefully a good amount of playing time is given to his eventual successor.

The winner of a camp competition between Jamie Winborn and Derrick Brooks

LOL Brooks isnt competing with anyone for anything anymore in this defense. He will simply be told he is being moved to SLB, In no situation will Brooks be entering training camp unsure of his position or responsibilities in this defense

Briggs at Will, Ruud at Mike, and Brooks at Sam.

I like the sound of that. A lot. Then Winborn to take over at Sam after next year.

Winborn couldn't make in in San Francisco, what makes him good enough to replace Brooks?

I would be very surprised if Brooks went out after this year's defensive performance. It just doesn't strike me as the way he wants to end his career..

He's not. I'm tired of hearing about Winborn just because he made a few tackles for a loss in the preseason.

Winborn couldn't make it in San Francisco when they switched to a 3-4. He had 61 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a pick, and 7 passes defensed in 2004 playing in a 4-3.

His problem has been that he couldn't stay healthy - he missed parts of 2002/03/05.

I'm a fan of his from his Vandy days, but that said, if we just plug him in as a starter, that's a mistake.

Winborn was a very good LB for the 49ers.  Saying Winborn could not make it in San Francisco is misleading.  Of course not when they switched to a 3-4 he was an odd fit.  Sapp looked lik an odd fit playing in the 3-4 as well.  Once they switched to the 4-3 he looked like a better fit.

Winborn is a starting caliber LB that is young and proven in this league.

He's proved he can't play a full season in the starting lineup.
