Wonder what this will do to their cap situation.

this reinforces my recommendation to save the big spending for next offseason.
Could you clarify that for me? I just want to make sure I understand what you're saying.

Another one bites the dust...  Not a surprise, though

because of the jump in salary cap and expectedly larger contracts looking forward, you can expect just about any good player to be franchised. Franchise tag = discount now.

Bingo.
Very short term solution - and frankly not all that in the way of a bargain - getting this year's ave to top 5 prices for one year, and a lot of bad feeling - not all that appealing.

it doesn't work like that, you can't save money for the next year.

But you can tie up money for several years signing average players this year.

That's not necessarily true.   I think I get what he's saying.   I believe he's saying that the Bucs shouldn't sign marginal guys for big bucks and long contracts this season.    If they do, that money will carry over into next year's salary cap as well.   If they sign guys to one year deals, no problem.   But if they sign guys for multiple year deals, this might not be the best year to do that.   I agree that teams are going to overpay this year and that next year should be a better time to invest in long term free agents.
