Every NFL player was a "monster" in college.
Not really. As we all know many college players coast by on talent and are drafted based on workout #'s or "upside". Sims was great in coverage at FSU and known for completely blowing guys up several times a game.

Lions beat writer Brian VanOchten suggests that Ernie Sims may be "expendable" after the season due to the play of rookie LB DeAndre Levy.

Levy's technique is still a bit raw, but he's been much more productive than Sims. Sims has also battled injuries all season. Sims would be an intriguing trade candidate for Tampa 2 teams in the offseason. The Bills, in particular, could use a hard-hitting, young weak-side linebacker.

Never a fan. Too small and not enough impact plays.

FRG is the most logical poster on this board.  You guys just don\'t like where the logical conclusions take you.

While it's tough to disagree, I would love to see Sims here for the right price, similar to the Crowell signing. He was a monster as FSU and is still very young. Maybe he was stretched a bit thin trying to do it all on such a terrible defense? Joe Barry has the obvious connection there, no doubt they'd run such a signing by him before hand.

He's not a good fit for that D in Detroit now, he would be perfect if the Bucs stay T2.

Kid has massive skills, prototype T2 LB

So was Buster Davis.
