ESPN NFL draft guru Mel Kiper released his second mock draft of 2016, and while there were a few changes in the top 10 since the first edition, his prediction for the Buccaneers at No. 9 remains the same – Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves III.
Hargreaves, a junior cornerback from Tampa, has received mixed reviews from scouts. Some believe he plays too small for his 5-foot-11 stature and, as Mark Cook alluded to on Wednesday, Hargreaves didn’t quite finish the 2015 season on a high note. Of course the same goes for his entire team as well.
Still, consensus opinion is that he has the talent and skills to be a top 15 pick and was undoubtedly one of college football’s most productive cornerbacks. Hargreaves finished his career at Florida (2013-15) with 121 tackles and eight interceptions, all while having fewer balls thrown his way during the final two seasons.
Kiper’s top 10 aligns similarly to NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s, with Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil at No. 1 and Western Kentucky’s Noah Spence pegged to New York at No. 10. Spence has seen his stock rise tremendously since the Senior Bowl. The 6-foot-3, 254 defensive end was first mock’d to Tampa Bay by PewterReport.com’s Scott Reynolds upon returning from Mobile.
There’s still two and a half months until the draft with the Combine just around the corner in late February. Anything can happen from here up until April 30, but as we get closer it will start becoming more clear which players will see themselves in the mix for a top 10 selection.

Pingback: Another Hargreaves-To-Bucs Mock Draft - Buccaneer Bruce
Considering Melton, McDaniel, are F.A.s,and age 31,30, what do we have after McCoy? Yet no one seems to mention D tackle when talking Buc needs. It starts up front. I am not sold on our interior D line.
DT C. McDonald
How many times has Mel picked our pick and did disregard spots 1-4?
Spence & Hargreaves III are a go for me… I see that NFL Network’s Daniel Jeramiah selected the Bucs as his favorite young team roster if he inherited a team for the next five years. Bring it, Meathead, bring it!
Over the years Mel Kiper used geography to aid his predictions. I wouldn’t put much stock into this one. I just don’t see Hargraves as a top 10 player from what I observed this past season.
BPA…..at #9. Stick to your board. Don’t reach for need.
