Minnesota Vikings free agent linebacker Napoleon Harris is scheduled to visit One Buccaneer Place Friday. Harris, 27, entered the NFL in 2002 as a first-round pick with Oakland. He could be signed to replace Bucs MLB Shelton Quarles, whose future is uncertain due to health concerns.
Harris, 27, originally entered the NFL in 2002 as a first-round pick with the Oakland Raiders. Bucs general manager Bruce Allen had a hand in selecting Harris, who played collegiatley at Northwestern.
The 6-foot-255-pound Harris spent the first three years of his career in Oakland before being traded to Minnesota in 2005 as part of the Randy Moss deal.
Harris has recorded 333 career tackles, six sacks, four forced fumbles and three interceptions during his five-year career as a middle linebacker.
With Tampa Bay starting MLB Shelton Quarles’ future uncertain due to health concerns that are being evaluated by doctors, Harris likely is being viewed as a possible successor to Quarles and/or competition for Bucs MLB Barrett Ruud.
