Dallas Cowboys free agent center Al Johnson visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend. Johnson, 28, has started 31 career games, but lost his starting job to Pro Bowl C Andre Gurode last season.
Johnson, 28, originally entered the NFL in 2003 as a second-round draft pick out of Wisconsin.
The 6-foot-5, 311-pound Johnson has started 31 of the 48 games he’s played in during his four-year career. However, Johnson didn’t start any games in 2006 after losing his starting job to Pro Bowl C Andre Gurode.
Tampa Bay is also interested in re-signing C/G Sean Mahan, who became an unrestricted free agent Friday.
Should the Bucs sign Johnson and re-sign Mahan, John Wade, who has been the team’s starting center since 2003, could be in danger of being released or traded.
Wade, 32, is scheduled to have a $1.860 million cap value in 2007. The Bucs can create approximately $1.2 million in cap room by parting ways with Wade.
