San Francisco 49ers free agent center Jeremy Newberry is scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday. The former Pro Bowl center has started 90 games since entering the NFL in 1998, but he’s struggled with injuries over the past three seasons.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will visit with San Francisco 49ers free agent center Jeremy Newberry on Wednesday, PewterReport.com is reporting.
Newberry, 31, has started 90 games during his nine-year career. However, the former Pro Bowl center has missed 36 games over the past three seasons due to lingering knee problems.
But if he is deemed healthy, the 6-foot-5, 304-pound Newberry could still serve as an upgrade over John Wade at the center position in Tampa Bay.
In addition to Newberry, the Bucs have expressed serious interest in several other free agent offensive linemen, including tackles Luke Petitgout (New York Giants) and Jon Stinchcomb (New Orleans) and guard Eric Steinbach (Cincinnati).
The Bucs are also hoping to re-sign offensive lineman Sean Mahan, who became an unrestricted free agent on Friday morning.
