Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Torrie Cox has been suspended for the first four games of the 2007 NFL season for failing a drug test and violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy. Cox can participate in training camp and the preseason, but will not be allowed back on Tampa Bay's roster until October 1.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that cornerback Torrie Cox has been suspended for the first four games of the 2007 NFL season for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy. It is not known whether the substance that Cox tested positive for was illegal drugs or illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Instead of illegal drugs or illegal performance-enhancing drugs, Cox could have also tested positive for alcohol consumption if he had a no-alchohol provision put in place by the NFL for its drug testing, due to Cox's prior DUI arrests on December 4, 2004 and September 13, 2005.

"We are hopeful that Torrie Cox can overcome this personal setback," said Bucs general manager Bruce Allen on Tuesday.

Cox's suspension will begin on Friday, August 31 at the end of the preseason. Cox is eligible to participate in all training camp practices and preseason games, but may not practice or work out at the team facility for the first four weeks of the 2007 NFL season. He is eligible to return to Tampa Bay's active roster on Monday, October 1, following the Bucs' game against Carolina on September 30.

Dump him. We don't need ol' gold tooth. Davis can take over at dime back, but we will need someone to step it up on special teams.

I hope he isn;t allowed to attend training camp. Bad influence to have him present.

We can sign a ST contributer who won't miss 4 games this year somewhere else.

Let this kid go.

Am I missing some information? Based on this article we really don't know the specifics of Mr. Cox's case. How can the above pass judgment with so little understanding of what really went down. Without more information I submit that we as fans should error in support of our players. Independent of their perceived value to the team. That's critical thinking with character.

With the number and type of Cox's past off the field problems, I think he's lost his "benefit of the doubt" rights. The guy just can't seem to stay out of trouble.

He's a good ST player that hasn't developed into a solid corner yet. His chances are dwindling.

All sorts of stuff. We don't even know what it was. If it was crack, yea we should let him go! Haha supplements, maybe he was blowin trees. 80% of the league is on something... who are we kidding? Merriman missed a few weeks last year too, but I would have taken his 16 or whatever amount of sacks. We as fans have to trust in the organization... and a great organization we are trusting in I might ad too. Whatever the buccs decide to do I'm behind them 100%. We are gonna have a great year. Our team is too good to let this distract or stop us from acheiving our goal. Its times like this that we pull for cox and support him in these times, not leave him high and dry. GO BUCCS!!

Everyone knows that things in the NFL are not equal. If this guy was an impact player we would put up with him, but he's not, and this is not his first run in with trouble. We should make an example of him and cut him. Besides what kind of message are we sending to the new guys that we are already giving second chances to? They might think that the leash is long. I do believe that managment will do whats best for the team.

Time for this guy to go. His off the feild problems are not just with the law. He also has problems with the fans. At fanfest he refused to sign a college picture of him self because the fan did not bring a photo for him to have. With this lastest problem it is his time to go!
