Buccaneers wide receiver David Boston was arrested Thursday night and charged with driving under the influence.
According to the Tampa Tribune, Boston was found asleepĀ at the wheel of his vehicle at 49th Street and Park Boulevard in Pinellas Park. The vehicle’s engine was still running.
The report goes on to state that Boston explained to police that he had traveled from Celebration in Orlando and was headed to the Tampa International Airport.
Although breathalyzer tests showed that there was no alcohol in his system, Boston was also given a field sobriety test, at which point it was determined that there was probable cause to arrest him and charge him with driving under the influence of a controlled substance or alcohol.
Police are waiting on the results of Boston’s urine tests.
Boston, 29, re-signed with Tampa Bay in January after being released by the Bucs in September of 2006. He was working his way back from two serious knee injuries and was listed as Tampa Bay’s starting Z (flanker) receiver on the team’s official depth chart.
Depending on the outcome of his urine tests and case, Boston, who was suspended by the NFL in 2004 for a positive steroid test, could face anything from a fine and suspended license to being released by the Bucs and/or suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The charges could also be dropped if Boston’s urine tests do not test positive for any illegal substances.

Hopefully Boston's just so weird that it made them think he was under the influence...anyone remember that story about him using strawberry-scented perfume in the Cardinals locker room?

Why would he risk doing something like this just as he's about to make, what I hope is a fantastic return to Pro Bowl form? Does a positive drug test mean he gets cut?

if he passed the breathalyzer the cops should of just let him go as being fatigued... good old tampa cops just trying to make the front page.... why dont the y head to belmont heights or capture some more dangerous people...

yea I'm with you "jtrc02", this story should have been released after the urine tests results come back. If he past a breathalyzer, why take him through the motions of field sobriety. Sounds like the officer could be in trouble for forcing him to do the sobriety. Even if Boston was drinking (which surely he was not while driving), it's not his fault the test come back negative. Should have been end of story, Boston go home. This sounds fishy..Wonder if it was a rookie cop?

Wrong jtrc02 and bucfan47. If the field officer believes he is under the influence, he has the responsibility to take him in. I live in the area he was picked up, and am glad my wife wasn't driving around with the kids at that time. The breathalyser doesn't test for drugs.. only alchohol.
Facts is:
1. He said he was coming back from training camp in orlando. camp has been out for over a week.
2. He was on the way to the airport (TPA). He was no where near there.
3. He told the office he didn't know where he was.

if the tests come back positive in any way shape or form, he's finished in this league IMO. Goddell will show no mercy. You guys obviously know that. It's a shame too, because I think Boston is so close to coming to form again and we all know he was probably going to be our #2 or #3. I have been rooting for this guy since training camp of last year and now that he has secured a roster spot, this happens. Unbelievable. Well, all we can do now is wait and see the hand he is dealt.

Let's just hope it's exhaustion and legal prescription meds. Anything else and he could be a goner. Paris Warren or Chas Gessner would gladly take his roster spot.
