The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued to shuffle their roster a day after releasing nearly two dozen players to form its 53-man roster. On Saturday, the Buccaneers claimed wide receiver Taye Biddle off waivers from Carolina and cornerback Anthony Madison off waivers from Pittsburgh. To make room for Biddle and Madison, the Bucs released cornerback Sammy Davis and linebacker Leon Joe.
Biddle, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound speedster, caught seven passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns during the 2007 preseason. Against the New York Giants in the preseason opener, he caught two passes for 108 yards with both of those catches going for touchdowns covering 85 and 23 yards. Biddle was on Carolina’s active roster in 2006, catching three passes for 37 yards in two games.
Madison, a 5-foot-9, 180-pounder, spent the 2006 season with the Steelers, notching three tackles on defense and 10 stops on special teams in 11 games. He led Pittsburgh with 18 tackles during the 2007 preseason, including 16 solo stops.
Davis, a former first-round pick of San Diego, was signed by Tampa Bay on March 13. Joe was claimed off waivers from Chicago on August 28.
Tampa Bay also reached an injury settlement with Jeb Terry, who was released from injury reserve. In other injury-related news, the Bucs placed offensive tackle Chris Denman, a seventh-round draft pick, cornerback Carlos Hendricks and wide receivers Paris Warren and Chas Gessner on injured reserve. Those four players had been waived injured on Saturday.
The Buccaneers also signed seven players to their practice squad: running back Kenneth Darby, cornerback Marcus Hamilton, tight end Keith Heinrich, wide receiver Chad Lucas, center-guard Enoka Lucas, offensive tackle Dennis Roland and fullback Byron Storer. Darby and Hamilton were two of Tampa Bay’s three seventh-round picks in 2007, while Heinrich and Ronald were on the Bucs’ practice squad last year.
In addition to the roster moves, several Buccaneers also switched jersey numbers:
WR Taye Biddle is 11
SS Sabby Piscitelli is now 21 (was 38)
FS Tanard Jackson is now 28 (was 36)
CB Anthony Madison is 37
DE Greg White is now 91 (was 74)
DT Greg Peterson is now 96 (was 64)
