Tampa Bay's celebration of its impressive 31-7 win over Atlanta on Sunday might be short-lived for linebacker Cato June, who was arrested on Monday morning and charged with driving under the influence.

The Bucs are indeed concerned about June's arrest and said they were looking into the matter as of Monday morning.

“I don’t have any comment on that right now other than that we are very concerned about the matter," said Bucs head coach Jon Gruden. "We are getting all the facts at this point in time. Obviously it’s a serious matter.

“I have a very strong opinion about Cato June. I think he’s a great young man and as we gather all the information we will make an announcement.”

June, who turned 28 on Sunday, was pulled over between Osborne Avenue and North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa at 2:52 a.m.

According to the Tampa Tribune, a Tampa police officer's radar clocked June's 2005 blue Cadillac sports utility vehicle at 66 miles per hour in a 45 mpg zone. The officer pulled June over and detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. The officer also claimed that June had bloodshot and glassy eyes.

"Field sobriety exercises were conducted," the affidavit said, according to the Tampa Tribune. "The defendant exhibited clues of impairment."

According to the police report, June refused to take a blood alcohol concentration test and was booked at the Orient Road Jail at 4:16 a..m.

The 6-foot, 227-pound June played an integral role in Tampa Bay's dominating performance vs. Atlanta. He notched a team-high nine tackles and one forced fumble.

June, who signed a three-year contract with the Bucs during the offseason after spending four years with the Indianapolis Colts, currently ranks third on the Tampa Bay defense in tackles with 88.

The Buccaneers are 6-4 and own a two-game lead in the NFC South division race. Tampa Bay hosts the 5-5 Washington Redskins at Raymond James Stadium next Sunday. Gruden said he wasn't too concerned with June's situation becoming a distraction to his team.

“We are going to address it and will address privately with Cato," said Gruden. "Obviously any time one of our players or coaches is involved in something like this we will address it. I don’t believe it will be a distraction, but I think it will be certainly something we can learn from and grow from. We are going to support our players any time we can. We love Cato. I don’t think you are going to find a better young man, but we will get the information on this and will respond to it when we have all the facts.”

June remained in jail until he posted $500 bail on the misdemeanor charge at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Once he does report to One Buc Place, it appears as though June will have the support of his Buccaneer teammates.

“I think we have to [rally around June],” said Bucs weakside linebacker Derrick Brooks. “Obviously I don’t know all that went into what happened, but this team has always backed each other through trial, and it’s not going to change now.”

that sucks! I guess the players were drinking on the plane on the way home.... doing 66 on Dale Mabry isnt that bad, considering the road was empty at that time of night... the guy was just trying to get home... he's a big guy, im sure he wasn't that drunk, but he was worried about the sobriety test .. the blood shot eyes were from the long day and flight home...

Actually the flight from Atlanta to Tampa is less than 2 hours and since it was so late, he must have been out partying! Which there is nothing wrong with that! But I am younger than he is, I have much less money than he does. But some how I am able to either get a cab or have a friend who will stay sober! Come on, why ruin a great season for a night of fun!

I also watched Coach Gruden's press conference this morning. The first question was "Does Cato June have a drinking problem?" Gruden glared and declined to comment. I thought it was a mean-spirited, digging comment, meant to tear down Gruden and the Bucs organization. Who was that guy?

He makes enough money in 5 seconds on the field to pay for a cab ride anywhere in Tampa. It was his birthday, get a limo, he's got the cash. Why risk so much when it's so easy to bum a ride home from a friend, especially when your Cato June! I can always catch a ride home and I don't have a super bowl ring. How much of it is arrogance, thinking your above the law? I hope everything works out, everyone makes mistakes, but does it have to be in the middle of a playoff race!
