Kiffin Would Rather Stay In Tampa Than Go To Oakland |

Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin addressed his contract status with the Tampa Bay media on Wednesday and also denied speculation that he wanted to leave after the season to coach with his son, Lane Kiffin, in Oakland. Kiffin strongly suggested that he wanted to stay in Tampa Bay.
Despite media reports that suggest he could be joining his son, Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin, as his defensive coordinator in Oakland at the end of the season, Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin seemed interested in staying in Tampa Bay.
Speculation has been running rampant for weeks that Kiffin, whose contract expires at the end of the 2007 season, could join his son’s coaching staff in 2008. That speculation was amplified even more by the fact that Lane Kiffin let defensive coordinator Rob Ryan out of his contract earlier this week.
“No, I’m not in a contract right now,” Monte Kiffin, whose Buccaneers host the New York Giants in an NFC Wild Card game on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium, told the Tampa Bay media. “Whatever happened in Oakland has nothing to do with me just because of the [last name] Kiffin. Believe me. I am totally concentrating on the New York Giants. I love the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I love Tampa. I love my son, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I really haven’t talked about it [with Lane]. I’ll be honest with you. I can’t tell you anything more than that. Somebody asked me a couple of weeks ago … what happened with Lane and his defensive staff you know – that’s Lane’s decision. Believe me, it’s not just the New York Giants or the playoffs. If the season were over right now I’d tell you the same thing. I’m focused on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is true that I’m not under contract, but that’s a whole different deal.”
The 67-year old Kiffin, whose defense finished second in the NFL in total defense in 2007, said that he was hoping to stay in Tampa Bay and continue working with head coach Jon Gruden. Alongside Gruden, Kiffin, who joined the Buccaneers under Tony Dungy in 1996, has had the league’s number one-ranked defense twice (2002 and 2005) and won Super Bowl XXXVII.
“Yeah, I’ve got a great relationship with Jon,” Kiffin said. “We started this in 2002 and I knew Jon before 2002. I knew Jon when he was with the Oakland Raiders. He would come back to the beach at Reddington Beach and we would talk football. I hope it continues that way.”
Not only was Kiffin downplaying any interest in the Oakland vacancy, he was almost politicking to get a new contract so he could stay in Tampa Bay.

GO KIFFIN & GRUDEN REGIME FOREVER!
I love these two as a defense/offense duo. Pay him until he wants to retire and hand the torch to Coach Morris (but also pay Morris like D Cordinator to keep him around)
GO MONTE & GO BUCS!
Let's make Monte PROUD OF US BUC FANS by being LOUD AS HELL THIS SUNDAY! So loud that our ears will feel like their bleeding. So loud that you won't be able to hear for a week. So loud....well you get my drift.
Do you all get me by now? Me & my loud shenanigans!

MVP
I think Monte should get a three year extension and then the job should go to Morris.

What are the Glazers waitng on? Long term extensions should be given to Allen, Gruden, and Kiffin. Morris should be given a contract like Marinelli had where he was paid much
more than just a D-line coach. We have a great coaching and front office chemistry. It would be ludicrous to even consider making any changes.

I agree with these guys.Let's keep these coachs and GM together until the wheels fall off.Our future looks bright. We know at some point in the future Monte will ride into the sunset, then let R. Morris take over.Let's rock RJS Sunday the Bucs need/deserve our support and we can show the nation our support for the Bucs.

If you remember to, Marinelli was also Assistant Head Coach. At 67 I don't think Monte wants to pack up all his shenanigans and go all the way across the country to Oakland just to coach with his son. Especially since he's been here since '96. Atleast I hope not and I hope we don't lose Raheem either.

Your right this does "need & deserve our support." No question about it. That's why I've been hammering away on the fact we need to do whatever we can to be LOUD AS HELL for this DEFENSE on 1st, 2nd & 3rd DOWNS! We also need to be quite for our offense so they can hear in the huddle & at the line of scrimmage.
Keep it up BUC FANS and let everyone you know, that doesn't happen to be a Pewter Report subsriber by now and is going to the game or not, to be LOUD AS HELL because we'll need all of you.
& Here's a big SU-FI for those that will go & sit on your hands and tape your mouth shut. -II
GO BUCS!
