Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott is expected to announce his retirement at a press conference that will be held at One Buccaneer Place on Thursday. Alstott, 34, played 12 seasons in the NFL, but missed the 2007 season due to a neck injury.
Word out of Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. is that Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott will hold a press conference at One Buccaneer Place on Thursday to announce his retirement from the National Football League.
Alstott, 34, spent the 2007 regular season on injured reserve after sustaining his second neck injury since 2003 in training camp. His original neck injury required season-ending surgery and put his playing career in doubt.
The Buccaneers originally drafted Alstott in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a fan favorite and soon was referred to by many as the "A-Train" due to his ability to run defenders over with the ball in his hands.
A six-time Pro Bowler, Alstott owns the franchise record for most rushing touchdowns (58) and total touchdowns (71). He currently ranks second in franchise history with 5,088 yards. In addition, the Buccaneers were 44-14 when Alstott scored a touchdown.

yawn! The tragic thing is, 2-3 more seasons and he'd be a decent candidate for the Hall of Fame. I think he falls just short now.
If the Bucs ever have a "Legend" section in our stadium, and we need one, Im sure #40 would be up there along with #55, #63 and #12

2-3 more seasons like he used to have or 2-3 more sesons period? Mike should still be a candidate for the Hall with the way his career went. How many FB's did what he did? I think if you are putting him in under a RB it may be a different story. Mike's problem will be that he didn't have a true position.
Thanks for the memories Mike!!
I loved watching you run people over.

Give it up guys. He was never good enough for the Hall of Fame. Take off the pewter colored glasses. He was never a great Fullback and only a halfway decent running back. He had a few memorable runs, no doubt, but the the Hall of Fame is reserved for the truly great player not the truly popular guy that plays for your favorite team.

Hey lgbarn, "a few memorable runs"? What games were you watching? The #40 I watched was a freaking human highlight reel, no matter what color glasses I wore.

You guys are too funny. Just showed your post to someone and we could only name a few "true" human highlight reel players. Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders and Jim Brown. To say that Alstott is in that class is truly laughable. Put down the crack pipe..
Alstott doesn't belong with the likes of Earl Cambell or Christian Akoye and you think he belongs in the HOF? How long have you been watching football?

Hey, you dont need to bring up my personal habits, I'm trying to quit that, really I am. Seriously though, I no he may not be an Earl Cambell or a Hershell Walker, but dude, hes ALSTOTT, how could you hate on ALSTOTT.

I just hope Deumig - the Rush Limbaugh of local sports radio - doesn't continue to ride Alstott's legendary status for ratings too far into the future. All that contrived controversy is hard on Alstott's reputation, isn't it?
