Atlanta free agent defensive tackle Rod Coleman should visit with Tampa Bay at One Buccaneer Place later this week, according to Coleman's agent, Pat Dye. The Falcons released Coleman, 31, last week. Coleman, who has notched 58.5 career sacks, played under Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen in Oakland.

Defensive tackle Rod Coleman has been on Tampa Bay's radar ever since he was released by the Atlanta Falcons last week, and now it looks like he will make a trip to Tampa to meet with the Buccaneers.

Coleman should visit One Buccaneer Place later this week, Coleman's agent Pat Dye told PewterReport.com on Monday. Exactly how soon Coleman visits Tampa Bay this week likely will be determined by how much progress Dye and the Bucs make in contract negotiations.

The Buccaneers are looking to improve their pass rush, which generated just 33 sacks in 2007. Although he's 31, Coleman is a player that could do that. He has notched 58.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in 109 career games.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Coleman recorded 31 of his career sacks over the last four seasons in Atlanta. However, Coleman suffered through an injury-plagued season in 2007, notching just two sacks in five games before finishing the season on injured reserve.

Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen are quite familiar with Coleman, whom they drafted in Oakland in 1999.

Coleman is a player the Bucs could work in to the rotation at the under tackle position with Jovan Haye, who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent.

The Bucs are also interested in signing former Atlanta tight end Alge Crumpler, who was released with Coleman and five other Falcons players last week. However, it is not yet known whether Crumpler has set up a visit with the Bucs.

Tampa Bay will be approximately $35 million under the salary cap when free agency begins on Friday.

Shouldn't we be focused on having a major deal ready to go for Justin Smith or Antwan Odom at midnight of the 29th ? I understand Coleman is a nice add for depth, but let's keep our eye on the ball. In the current environment for d-line players who can pressure the QB, the Bucs must strike quickly or lose a shot at one of the top DE free agents !

I hope we get this guy! I also hope we don't forget about our offense! I'm really hoping we open up the playbook next year and score some points!! I just read that Briggs may be going to San Fran, and Justin Smith was getting targeted by some team that runs a 3-4 defense so he could be used as a LB as well! I have confidence in the Bucs organization though! Let's play the last game of the post season at home next year guys!! Make it happen Bruce, and Jon!

Save the major deals for the elite players and Smith and Odom are good DEs but not worth a Dwight Freeny type contract. I hope we can add at least one of those guys, but I hope people don't start crying if we don't. Allen did a great job bringing in FAs for the right dollar last season and I trust he will do the same this year.

Odom is actually considered to be a third tier DE and Smith is 1st tier.

think signing coleman is huge when healthy this guy is a monster,we must sign samuels this guy is in the top 5 of all CB and would fit great in our D,alan fanaca would be a great center and a huge upgrade from wade.smith ......at the right price maybe, hes not that great.briggs is a hall of fame player that we cant pass up on find a spot for him even if it means moving brooks to the other side for 2 more years before he retires.and last if your going to trade for a WR atleast do it for johnson a PROBOWL WR not walker!!! he had 1 good year
