Tampa Bay is indeed targeting former Atlanta Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler and defensive tackle Rod Coleman. Crumpler visited One Buc Place on Tuesday and Coleman is scheduled to visit with the Bucs on Thursday.
The free agent signing period doesn't begin until Friday, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are already bringing players in for visits.
As previously reported by PewterReport.com, Tampa Bay is indeed targeting former Atlanta Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler and defensive tackle Rod Coleman.
In fact, Crumpler visited with the Buccaneers and took a physical on Tuesday, and Coleman is scheduled to visit One Buccaneer Place on Thursday. Both players were released by the Falcons last week.
Tampa Bay, which is approximately $44 million under the salary cap, is targeting Coleman, 31, in an effort to improve its pass rush, which accounted for 33 sacks last year. Coleman has recorded 58.5 career sacks and 10 forced fumbles in 109 career games.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Coleman is a player Bucs head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen are quite familiar with. They drafted him as members of the Oakland Raiders in 1999.
Crumpler, 30, has caught 316 career passes for 4,212 yards (13.3 avg.) and 35 touchdowns in 108 career games.
Last season, the 6-foot-2, 262-pound Crumpler caught 42 passes for 444 yards (10.6 avg.) and five touchdowns in Atlanta.
The former second-round pick out of North Carolina is a player on Tampa Bay's radar due to the fact that Bucs tight ends Anthony Becht and Jerramy Stevens are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on Friday.
When asked how Crumpler's visit with the Bucs went on Tuesday, his agent, James Williams, had no comment.

...."No Comment"?! WOW, don't know what to make of that. Crumpler would be nice. But I'm calling my shot right now! (Two days before the Start of Free Agency). The absolute steal for the Bucs will be D.J. Hackett from Seattle. Good Size (6'2", 208 lbs), Good Speed, and is very familiar with the West Coast Offense that Gruden runs (Played for Mike Holmgren for 3 years), and Young!!!! (26 years old). Stone Cold Lock, Put it in the Books, Belive IT! HAHA!

docbravo,
I am with you. Spend the money on Free Agency on Offensive Players. Coach Gruden is good at this.
I am convinced that we have a Defensive Coach in Monte who can teach ddefenive raft picks how to play defense.
Go Bucs

Hackett would be a good acquisition, and now is the time to buy low on him since he was injured last year.
There are rumors that Alge is headed to Ten., but who knows...
Coleman makes sense since we just lost two guys on the D line.

Strong rumors that the Redskins are going to sign Hackett. He is close with Zorn and fits exactly what they need. The cleared some additional room and seems to be the only guy on the radar right now.

STRICK-9
Trade Clayton for Dewayne Robertson and sign Coleman....we solve both are UT & NT needs w/ Hovan, Haye & Peterson in rotation.
Stovall plays the same as M80 and target either Avery, Devin Thomas or Lavell Hawkins for the speedster in the 2nd w/ either Stewart or Mendenhall in the 1st adds some serious quality to our roster. Oh yeah...Godfrey in the 3rd and FA Jeremey Newberry at C and we are set....

Kaptain Morgan
Justin Smith I feel would be the best pick-up for the Bucs on either side of the ball in free agency. Asante Samuel is not an ideal cornerback in the West Coast scheme and I like what Buchanon did filling in for the oft injured Kelly. Not to say we shouldn't sign a cornerback in free agency. However, just because we have the cap room now, doesn't mean we should spend it recklessly. Bruce Allen has spent wisely with little cap space the past few seasons, I don't think the Bucs need to break the bank on all the top free agents to address a few positions when they can spread it around and address more positions and add depth to this improving team.

I agree Kaptain...I'm so tempted with Samuel and a few others. I hope Alen has more disipline than I do. We do need some depth on the line now...and ofcourse the skill positions. He has to stretch this money out a long way. We need 2-3 big signings and 3-4 more for depth. Not to mention our draft signings. 11 million for Samuel would limit everything else. But...we'd be strong at CB...I dunno.

dodda45,
That does make alot of sense for the Redskins to acquire Hackett, (With Zorn coming from Seattle to Coach) but I'm hoping that the Skin's Salary Cap situation won't allow them to sign him. In the past the Skin's haven't looked for the best players that fit their scheme, but more of the Biggest name available. I'm just hoping, for our sake, that trend continues this year.
If I had to choose between Samuel and Briggs, I'd prefer Briggs, but either one provides stabiltiy for the next 5 years (barring injury).
Go Bucs

Why would we sign a pass catching tight end..?
Must be his size 6-2 262# ...perfect for a 3rd tackle on the line....we have Alex Smith...do we ever throw him the ball??

No coment from his agent means the Bucs low balled him. Unless they really fall in love with one of these free agents I don't see the Bucs over spending for anyone.

Just want to go on Record again (as previously posted) and say I called the Hackett shot 3 days ago. Just makes too much sense! Let's see if it happens as quickly as I imagine.
As far as the names mentioned above...(Stecker and Gilmore)... WTF? Contrary to what most people think, I'd like to see us resign Jeremy Stevens (who already knows the system), and simply draft a Running Back in April.
Faine, is a great addition!
Cornerback should be our Next Move...HELLO RANDALL GAY, CB from N.E. Pats. (Calling my shot again!) HAHA!
