The Tampa Bay Buccaneers began recruiting new players when free agency began on Friday morning. One of the players the Bucs are attempting to sign is Seattle Seahawks free agent middle linebacker Niko Koutouvides. He is scheduled to visit with the Bucs on Friday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't waste any time contacting agents once free agency began on Friday morning.

PewterReport.com is reporting that the Bucs are attempting to sign Seahawks free agent middle linebacker Niko Koutouvides.

Sources tell PewterReport.com that the Bucs and Koutouvides' agent are involved in serious contract negotiations and that a visit is scheduled for Friday at One Buccaneer Place.

Koutouvides, 26, originally entered the National Football League in 2004 as a fourth-round draft pick with Seattle. He has notched 112 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble while making his biggest impact on special teams and serving as a primary backup behind Pro Bowl MLB Lofa Tatupu.

The 6-foot-2, 238-pound Koutouvides played in a Cover 2 defensive scheme in Seattle that is similar to the one the Buccaneers run in Tampa Bay.

If Tampa Bay does sign him to a contract, Koutouvides likely would back up starter Barrett Ruud and replace backup MLB Jeremiah Trotter, who is an unrestricted free agent and possibly restricted free agent MLB Antoine Cash, who was a special teams standout before he suffered a torn ACL during the 2007 preseason.

if you're going to look at lb, why not Briggs? Huge contract, but huge upside. Imagine Brooks, Ruuuuuuud, Cato, and Briggs.
