The Buccaneers added more depth to its linebacker corps on Tuesday with the addition of Matt McCoy. The Bucs liked McCoy, 25, coming out of San Diego State, but he was drafted by Philadelphia where he has spent most of his career. Read more about this signing in this PewterReport.com story.

In addition to inking Detroit free agent linebacker Teddy Lehman to a deal, the Buccaneers signed Saints free agent outside linebacker Matt McCoy on Tuesday. Tampa Bay was interested in signing the former second-round pick when he was released by Philadelphia last year.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers attempted to sign outside linebacker Matt McCoy when he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last season, but McCoy joined New Orleans' active roster instead.

McCoy became an unrestricted free agent on Feb. 29, and Tampa Bay took another shot at him. On Tuesday, the Bucs landed McCoy, signing him to a contract.

The 5-foot-11, 230-pound McCoy is considered a strong special teams contributor and has the speed to excel in Tampa Bay's Cover 2 defensive scheme.

McCoy, 25, originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick out of San Diego State in 2005.

What do these two signings and the earlier signing of Antoine Cash mean for last year's draft picks (Hayward and Black)? Only so many back up spots are available. I'm assuming Trotter and Nece are now out of jobs, but are the Bucs still high on their two draftees from last year?

Horse

I think this is a good thing. We are getting faster on Defense.
All we need now is a good DL and CB in the first three rounds.
Go Bucs

Horse, I'm okay with these moves as well. They give us compitition for starting spots and depth in case of injuries. We all know what injuries can do to us. Be interesting to what who gets the starting nod next year. At least we have several guys who COULD fill roles. This may cause some of our guys to step up a notch as well.

GO BUCS!!!!
