Oakland Raiders free agent center Jeremy Newberry has received a contract offer from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Newberry would add depth behind C Jeff Faine, who signed a six-year, $37.5 million contract with the Bucs shortly after free agency started.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made Jeff Faine the highest-paid center in the National Football League when they signed him to a six-year, $37.5 million contract on Feb. 29, but they're apparently not done addressing the position.

The Buccaneers and one other team have made contract offers to Oakland Raiders free agent C Jeremy Newberry, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Newberry, who turns 32 later this month, has started 104 games during his 10-year career. While the former Pro Bowler missed 36 games during a three-year (2005-07) span due to knee injuries, Newberry managed to stay healthy enough to start 14 games for the Raiders last year.

If signed, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound Newberry, who is well versed in the West Coast offense from his playing days with the 49ers, would add competition and depth to Tampa Bay's center position. Although Faine is Tampa Bay's starting center, the Bucs lack depth at the position with John Wade and Matt Lehr both on the free agent market.

The Buccaneers were scheduled to visit with Newberry when he became a free agent last year, but he signed a one-year contract with the Raiders just one day before his visit to Tampa. Newberry has not visited the Buccaneers this offseason.
