The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced their 2008 preseason opponents on Thursday. The Bucs will host New England and Jacksonville while traveling to Miami and Houston for their four preseason contests. Tampa Bay's first preseason game is at Miami on the weekend of Aug. 7-11.
The National Football League is not expected to release the 2008 regular season schedule until mid-April, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced their 2008 preseason opponents on Thursday.
The Bucs will play four exhibition contests, hosting New England and Jacksonville while traveling to Miami and Houston.
If those opponents seem familiar it's because they are. The Buccaneers played the same four teams during the 2007 preseason, where Tampa Bay compiled a 3-1 record en route to going 9-7 and winning the NFC South division title during the 2007 regular season.
Tampa Bay will kick off its 2008 preseason in Miami to face the Dolphins on the weekend of Aug. 7-11. It will mark the ninth straight year that the in-state rivals have clashed in preseason. The Bucs escaped Miami with a 31-28 win over the Dolphins during last year's preseason.
The Bucs' Week 2 preseason contest will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Aug. 17. Tampa Bay will host the AFC Champion New England Patriots in front of a nationally televised audience on NFL Network. The Buccaneers downed the Patriots 13-10 at Raymond James Stadium during the 2007 preseason.
Tampa Bay will host its other in-state rival, Jacksonville, in Week 3 of the preseason on the weekend of Aug. 21-25. The Jaguars handed the Buccaneers their only loss of the 2007 preseason in a 19-13 contest at Jacksonville.
The Bucs will conclude the 2008 preseason in Houston with a game vs. the Texans. Tampa Bay will clash with Houston on the weekend of Aug. 28-29. Last preseason, the Bucs defeated the Texans at Raymond James Stadium, 31-24.
With the exception of its game vs. New England, each of Tampa Bay's preseason contests will be televised locally on WFLA-TV.

Week 2 New England Aug. 17 NFL Network

I've got to say that it's a little disappointing to be playing the same teams as last year. Playing a new team or two gives the Bucs a chance to take a look a few players and offensive/defensive formations that they don't get to see too often.
I will say I'm glad we get to play the Jags as usual, especially for the 3rd game when they'll play their starters for about half the game. I'm getting sick of losing to these guys and I'd love to beat them at full strength. I can still hear their fans chanting "Duval!!" (as in Duval county) when I was sitting at a bar watching last season's game.

Dude they schedule these same teams because they are easy trips for the pre season Do you really want them traveling to the west coast just to see other formations. It's not worth it. plus the preseason is a joke!!
I want the real sked to come out already!!! I need to start booking trips out of Jersey! GOD I HATE THE GIANTS!!!!!!

Actually, I just said "a new team or two" and there are other teams in the NFL that aren't on the west coast. New England will once again be playing in our stadium this preseason. Houston, Miami and Jacksonville seem to be regulars but any other team outside our division in the NFL could have been scheduled to play here and it wouldn't have hurt us at all.
Let's say we were scheduled to play Buffalo at home instead of New England. What it would have provided is an opportunity for fans who don't normally get to see certain teams play a chance to see them (Bucs fans and Bills fans alike). Also, getting to see other teams' players and formations in person for our coaches is not trivial. It allows us to scout the other teams players as well as coaches such if a need arises.
