Kansas City franchised DE Jared Allen's visit with Minnesota has concluded. While his agent still is negotiating with the Vikings, the Buccaneers remain interested in trading for Allen, who could visit Tampa Bay as early as Tuesday.
Although Kansas City Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen spent the weekend in Minnesota, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers still appear to be in the running to acquire the Pro Bowler's services.
Allen's visit in Minnesota has concluded due to the fact that league rules state that a visit can last no more than 48 hours, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
However, negotiations between the Chiefs and Vikings on a trade and talks between Allen's agent, Ken Harris and the Vikings on a long-term, lucrative contract are ongoing.
In the meantime, Allen could visit One Buccaneer Place as early as Tuesday or as late as Thursday of this week. It is likely that the Chiefs will trade Allen to either the Vikings or Buccaneers before the 2008 NFL Draft is held on April 26-27.
Allen, 26, led the NFL in sacks last season with 15.5. The former fourth-round draft pick was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent last February until the Chiefs put the franchise tag on him.
Several published reports have suggested that the Chiefs are looking to receive a first- and second-round draft pick in exchange for Allen, who has recorded 43.5 career sacks in four seasons.
The team that trades for Allen will also need to sign him to a long-term contract. The Vikings and Buccaneers have $14 million and $25 million in salary cap room, respectively.

Well...maybe this years first round and a second next year. I don't know man. It's tempting. He's young...he's talented...he's got 4 straight years of great production. I mean if he'd been in a large market team he'd be a superstar like Strahan was in his prime. I don't know if I like the cap hit he'd be for so long...but what positions are more important? Maybe QB, LT, Shutdown CB. If we're going to spend money we could spend it on worse people in worse positions. I just don't know who we won't be able to keep later because of this. If Brooks is gone next year then that makes it easier. We do seem to have a ton of money invested in DE's though. I guess that's good...not flashy but good. I'll trust the Bucs on this one. 2 First rounders is too much though. We have solid DE's now. I don't know if the sac #'s will translate onto the Buc's system. I'm thinking about it.

I find it interesting that Allen is a former 4th round pick. This means if you do your homework gems can be found in the draft in any round. Should any team give K.C. a 1st, and 2nd, they would be doing so for a 4th rounder. If this guy was sqeaky clean I might be tempted, his production speaks for itself. If however he celebrates his new mega contract with a few drinks, he could be suspended for the season. Tampa, do your homework, all your scouts and talent people find someone in the draft that can get to the Q.B., you have 5 picks to get it right.

Surferdudes, that could be the worst analogy of all time...So if Tom Brady was offered in a trade for a 1st rounder, you don't do it because he was formerly a 6th round pick? I bet you the Saints could get a lot more with Colston than a 7th round pick if they wanted to...

Yea, very bad analogy Surferdude...And they don't have 5 picks to get it right, they may be able to invest one. One chance to get it right, that's tough...

I say trade away!! If the team is considering trading down, what's the difference? We are already picking 20th, we trade down to what? Basically a 2 round pick? I say get the proven player, and draft 2 WR's, and CB with our remaining picks! But, whatever the organization decides to do, I'm with'em!! They have done an outstanding job thus far, why doubt them now? Go Bucs!!!!

This guy is the real deal. What a set of bookend we would have with Gaines and Allen. check out his video.

Lets make the trade. Then give him a limo and a driver to keep him out of trouble. We can even throw in sims, plummer, and gradkowski. At least Allen will be productive on the field.

No what I'm saying is you can find talent in any round, T Brady being a good example. If you trade for this guy which I'm not totally against, you better hope he can stay on the field, he already has one strike against him. My point on him being a 4th rounder is, who knows what your 1st, and 2nd pick could become if you trade those picks away. If a 4th rounder can become such a great player, why can't a !st, and 2nd pick become just as good? You'd be rolling the dice trading away two high picks.
