The Buccaneers are out of the mix for Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen, who has been traded to the Vikings in exchange for a first-round pick and two third-round selections. Allen will also sign a six-year, $74 million contract with the Vikings.
Jared Allen's trip to Minnesota turned out to be his last.
Kansas City traded the Pro Bowl defensive end to Minnesota on Tuesday evening in exchange for the Vikings' first-round pick (17th overall) and two third-round selections in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Allen, 26, has agreed to terms on a six-year, $74 million contract that includes $31 million in guaranteed money. Once signed and approved by the league, that deal will make Allen the highest-paid defensive end in the NFL.
The Buccaneers were hoping to visit with Allen this week, but he never traveled to Tampa due to the fact that his two-day visit in Minnesota went well and contract negotiations between the Vikings and Allen's agent Ken Harris moved quickly.
Allen notched a league-high 15.5 sacks last season and has recorded 43.5 quarterback takedowns during his four-year career.
The Buccaneers have five drafts picks, one in each of the first five rounds, in the 2008 NFL Draft. That includes the 20th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
It is unclear what Tampa Bay was willing to offer Kansas City in terms of compensation or Allen in terms of a contract.

I'm glad the Bucs made it expensive for the Vikings to get him. I am happy the Bucs did not part with three draft picks for him. Our offensive line must block the heck out of him when the Bucs play the Vikings this fall. Allen would of been a good fit at the right price. It looks like the price may of been too high. Go Bucs!!!!!1

Grats Viks you guys got a nice DE there.....that being said I'm glad Bruce is in place instead of Mckay cause lord knows our draft would have been busted. The Bucs have too many holes to plug to just throw all their draft picks away. I'd much rather see a WR CB and a young DE/DT that we could groom than just Jared. Oh and btw...unless Allen can play QB I wouldnt worry too much about the Vikqueens either :P

I guess they think they are one DE away from the SuperBowl. DE wasn't a big enough need to throw all that at Allen. White, Adams, and the rest of the guys can hold the Dline down. I would have loved to see him here but it would have cost us our 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks and that is just out of the question.
What would we have done on draft day?

Glad to see they got him. I agree the draft can fill more important needs. I said it before, he was to much risk for the money and picks . One off field problem and it would be all over. No player. No money and no new players from the draft. We have geat resoected players and they would not need his type of problem from off field antics.

Thank god we didn't get him. I had a feeling it wasn't going to happen back when I first posted John Clayton stating the Vikes were offering 1st and 2nd round picks...I had feeling we were out.
We do not need to pay the amount of money he was going to command anyway. We are already competitive fellas, already there in terms of talent. We are just adding more icing to the cake in terms of talent needed to make a serious run at a SuperBowl.
Minn. is not there in terms of the offensive side of the ball. Not even close.

Are the vikes the new redskins? I hope they win the superbowl soon b/c financially they are going to be in trouble. They paid all that money for Hutchinson...good move, spent lots of money for Berrian .......idiotic move, and now a huge contract for Allen with 31 million in guarantees. The Williams brothers in the middle are going to want to get paid soon and unless they are willing to take hamburgers for compensation I can't see the Vikes capable of keeping either one for long term. Zygi you may not want to use Dan Synder as a role model.

Just one DUI from being out of the NFL for a year. Thank you Vikings!
I see a DL/DT, or QB going in Rounds 1 & 2. I see a CB/WR going in Rounds 3 & 4. Good as guess as any at this point.
Regardless of what position's we pick in Round 1 & 2, we will be a better team.
Go Bus!

Way top go Bruce. I don't think any player is worth 3 draft picks.
He did have a nice year last year but for all we know he could be a one year wonder .With the Bucs luck he probably would have sustained a career ending injury in training camp anyway. Maybe the bad luck will go to another team for a change this year. Now that we did not overspend for this guy, how about getting some of our own players taken care of. Namely Garcia, Graham, etc. Please make the right decisions on Saturday. I hope that we are able to draft one of the following running backs, Jonathan Stewart,Chris Johnson, Ray Rice,Kevin Smith or Felix Jones. Stewart or Johnson would be great.

DUI isn't the only risk - I've heard of people getting injured in the NFL. If he gets hurt, the picks you could have had in the 2008 draft are gone, period. I can't wait to beat the Vikings.
