The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent Wednesday visiting with Philadelphia cornerback Lito Sheppard, FoxSports.com is reporting. While the Bucs are in the market for a cornerback, PewterReport.com has been unable to confirm Sheppard's visit with the Bucs.

The Buccaneers are in the market for a cornerback, and they're reportedly one of several teams interested in trading for Eagles CB Lito Sheppard.

According to FoxSports.com, Tampa Bay spent Wednesday visiting with Sheppard in Tampa. However, PewterReport.com has been unable to confirm Sheppard's visit through its own sources.

Sheppard, 27, is a two-time Pro Bowler. He has intercepted 17 passes and scored three touchdowns during his six-year career.

The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Sheppard would fill a need for the Buccaneers, who could select a cornerback in the 2008 NFL Draft or trade for Sheppard due to the fact that Ronde Barber is 33 and Phillip Buchanon, Eugene Wilson and Sammy Davis are each in the final year of their respective contracts.

FoxSports.com also reported that the Buccaneers are the frontrunners for Sheppard, who likely will be traded by Saturday. The report suggested the Eagles were looking for at least a second-round pick in exchange for Sheppard.

Tampa Bay owns five picks, one each of the first five rounds of the 2008 NFL Draft, which will be held this weekend.

dude bucfan47 - lay off the PR guys every one in awhile :). I love the idea of picking up shephard for a 2nd rounder (crossing fingers eagles will do it for a 3rd as some sites report). Yes, he's had injury issues, but he's the type of player that can thrive in the cover 2 on the edge. We'd have a nice dime package with Barber, Buchanon, Wilson, and Sheppard. Would also free up rd 1 for qb or DL. There are no value recievers at spot #20. If the Bucs want to go receiver, they have to trade to early round 2 where a guy like Avery will be sitting and waitng for them (picking up extra picks in the process).

I agree w/ bucfan47 - if you focus only locally on the Bucs and you charge a premium, you better git w/ the program. (Just some tough love.)

Here is the important question: why are the Eagles willing to part w/ Sheppard? Are they just overloaded w/ great CBs?

Man, Tomsan, Bucfan47... you guys ease up!!!! I didn't know you guys were restricted from searching the rest of the internet for your sports news. I wasn't aware the PR had to report everyting that's happening with the Bucs first! So what if they didn't report that Lito was in town. What's the Big Deal? Holla at me when Lito inks a Deal with the Bucs!!!

Personally, I don't pay the PR for breaking news, I pay for "in depth, details of the Bucs that I can't get anywhere else!" You guys feel free to start your own site and Break as Many Stories as you like!

As for me and my Money..... I'm riding with the Pewter Report!

I believe the Eagles are trying to recoup from a Poor Draft Last Year. They have OK depth at CB, and could use some extra picks this year to get McNabb some weapons. I do this deal in a Heart Beat if I'm Bruce Allen!!!! I'd even package M. Clayton and offer a 3rd rounder instead of a 2nd though! And I'm a M. Clayton supporter!!

Tomsan, Bucfan47 -- you must be too young to know what life was like before PR! Get a grip! To whom are you comparing these guys? Even the New York Times doesn't break every story first. To do so they would probably have to constantly annoy their best sources with phone calls. They can't control whether some other team interested in trading with the Bucs leaks something to a national news source, whereas Bruce and Co. are tight-lipped.

In any case, keep up the great work, PR!

The best part of this story is that we are rumored to be trying to unload Clayton on them.

Interesting. If they do trade a pick to the Eagles for him, I hope they can trade down from their first pick to get additional picks in rounds 1-3 this year. Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!

Keep Clayton. Contract year. He seems like the type of guy that will come up big when the money is on the line. He is playing lighter this year aand could produce.
