Bucs Use Sixth-Round Pick To Select LB Hayes |

Tampa Bay invested its sixth-round pick in Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes (Florida State) |
The Buccaneers used their sixth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft to select Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes. The 6-foot, 226-pound Hayes is a early-entry junior and left school shortly after an academic scandal at Florida State.
The competition at Tampa Bay's linebacker position got even stiffer on Sunday when the Bucs used the sixth-round pick they acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears to select Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes.
The 6-foot-1, 226-pound Hayes is considered versatile enough to play both inside and outside linebacker.
Hayes notched 156 career tackles, eight sacks and 29.5 stops for a loss in 35 games (21 starts) at Florida State.
An early-entry junior, Hayes opted to enter the 2008 NFL Draft shortly after an academic scandal at Florida State in which more than 30 Seminoles were suspended from playing in the 2007 Music City Bowl. A university official later confirmed that Hayes was not enrolled at Florida State at the time of that contest, yet still played in the game.
With Derrick Brooks, Barrett Ruud and Cato June established as starters, Hayes will compete with Quincy Black, Adam Hayward, Ryan Nece, Teddy Lehman and Matt McCoy, among others, for a roster spot.

Like this pick a lot too -- at the end of the day I think it means bye bye Ryan Nece, Leon Joe, Antoine Cash and potentially a Black, Hayward, Lehman or McCoy as well

I love the bucs organization, and will always support what decisions are made, but I don't understand why we have picked up all these LB's. Unless we plan on switching to a 3-4 soon, why must we have 10 plus LB's? Are we gonna use some for trade bait? I think we have done an outstanding job in the draft, I just wish I had a little more insight as to why soooo many LB's.

I love this pick too! Maybe Geno can room with Aqib in the off season...should make for an interesting few months before they're both suspended for 'issues'...I can't wait!!!

This is too good to be true...As if Geno and Aqib aren't enough, now we can add Cory to our Bad Boy list! You gotta hand it to Bruce and John...they really know character...

I guess you all want a "all choir boy team". While we're at it, lest get rid of Jeff Garcia, he has a dui. Lets cut Cato June while we're at it, even though the charges were dropped. If you all would of had your way, the Bucs shouldn't of drafted Warren Sapp. Lets get rid of Jay Gruden also, even though he got the Bucs Greg White. I wonder what character problems you all had at 22 siting up there on your thrones all perfect and all knowing?

Geno Hays is a solid pick. He can learn behind the best for a few years, and hopefully contribute when he is called on. Besides, he is an early entry. If he would have stayed another year he would have been at the very least a 3rd or 4th round pick.
sanders9759 & chuckieP are you guys serious??? You are probably the same idiots that got pissed when we didn't draft Mike Williams in 05'.
