Tampa Bay free agent defensive end Greg Spires will sign a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, the team he helped the Bucs defeat in Super Bowl XXXVII. Spires, who turns 34 in August, was released by the Bucs on Feb. 27.

Buccaneers free agent defensive end Greg Spires will sign a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Spires, was released in a salary cap move on Feb. 27. He is the second Bucs free agent to join the Raiders this offseason. Center John Wade signed with Oakland earlier in the offseason.

Spires played in just 10 games (eight starts) with the Buccaneers in 2007 due to a torn calf muscle he sustained during the regular season. He notched 43 tackles and just two sacks.

Tampa Bay acquired Spires as a free agent during the 2002 offseason. He notched 340 tackles and 26 sacks during his six-year tenure as a Buccaneer, which included Tampa Bay's Super Bowl XXXVII win over his new team, the Oakland Raiders.

Spires was scheduled to have a base salary of $3.9 million and a cap value of $4.361 million in 2008 before the Bucs released him just before the start of free agency.

The official departure of Spires and running back Michael Pittman's free agent status leave the Buccaneers with just four players -- linebackers Derrick Brooks and Ryan Nece, cornerback Ronde Barber and safety Jermaine Phillips -- from Tampa Bay's Super Bowl team.
