The Bucs trimmed their roster to 53 players on Saturday. On the list of cuts was QB Chris Simms, LB Ryan Nece, and DT Dre Moore. The Bucs kept four quarterabcks. Tampa Bay will kick off the 2008 regular season in New Orleans on Sept. 7.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers trimmed their roster to 53 players on Saturday.
The Bucs made the following roster maneuvers in order to come into compliance with the NFL-mandated roster amount of 53 players:
DE Charles Bennett (released)
G Phil Bogle (released)
DT Chris Bradwell (released)
DE Patrick Chukwurah (released)
WR Brian Clark (released)
T Chris Clark (released)
RB Kenneth Darby (released)
OL Chris Denman (released)
TE Daniel Fells (released)
CB Marcus Hamilton (released)
CB Darrell Hunter (released)
G Brian Johnson (released)
WR Chad Lucas (released)
DT Dre Moore (released)
LB Ryan Nece (released)
T Dennis Roland (released)
QB Chris Simms (released)
RB Clifton Smith (released)
WR Micheal Spurlock (released)
FB Carl Stewart (released)
Cornerback Sammy Davis was also released from the Injured Reserve list. Wide receiver Cortez Hankton was placed on the Injured Reserve list. He tore a flexor muscle against the Houston Texans in the final preseason game on Thursday night.
Bucs tight end Jerramy Stevens will not count against the team's 53-man roster for the first two weeks of the season due to due to a suspension he must serve.
Tampa Bay kept four quarterbacks on the roster. Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown, and rookie Josh Johnson were all on the 53-man roster. Johnson did not play much in the preseason and there were some doubts that he would be on the final roster.
The Buccaneers cut their fourth-round pick Dre Moore. In last April's draft Tampa Bay traded up to acquire the Maryland product. Moore was beat out by second-year defensive lineman Greg Peterson. Seventh-round pick running back Cory Boyd was waived-injured at the beginning of training camp. The Bucs other five rookie draft picks made the team. Undrafted rookie free-agent cornerback Elbert Mack made the final roster as the fifth cornerback.
The Bucs will spend the next few days assembling their eight-man practice squad. Several of the players released on Saturday could receive practice squad consideration from the Buccaneers. Russian safety Sergey Ivanov will be on the practice squad and will not account as he has an exemption from playing in NFL Europe.
As of right now Tampa Bay will still kick off the 2008 regular season in New Orleans on Sept. 7. It is possible that Hurricane Gustav could force the game to be moved elsewhere.

It feels like the most relieving dump you could ever take !!!That guys been hanging around the bowels of this team too long !!
Quinn Gray got cut,not like it matters but maybe we should take a look at him as protection for WHEN Garsizzler goes down...
We need to keep Moore and B.Clark on that practice squad. If Moore would just get his lazy ass in shape and show some drive !!-Clark should be kept in case one of our older WRs go down(both groins and overtheHillard arent gettin any younger).
Clifton will get a chance somewhere, likely on a PS.There are alot of desent RBs hittin the market-
Morency,K.Keith,R.Johnson-among others.
One last thing for next season:
The Bucs need to find a position player who can ALSO take care of the long snapping.I have nothing against our snapper other then the fact he holds a valuable roster spot that could be filled with a much needed back up at a skill position...
Looking forward to seeing us play for real....

$th Picks and on are always high risk and we just experience this.
QB concerns if Garcia doesn't come out right away and perform. I'm relieved we have Johnson on 53 man roster.
Go Bucs. Now we have to perform. The focus needs to be turned up a notch. We might be playing our first game in Tampa which could be a big break for us.
