Tampa Bay defensive end Greg White signed his contract with the Buccaneers on Saturday and is taking part in the team's first practice. White, who led the team with eight sacks in 2007, was an exclusive rights free agent. In order to make room for White on their roster, the Bucs released CB Jonathan Hefney.

Although he participated in voluntary workouts and Tampa Bay's three-day mandatory mini-camp this offseason, Buccaneers defensive end Greg White remained unsigned.

That was until Saturday, when White, who was an exclusive rights free agent, signed his exclusive rights deal with the Buccaneers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In order to make room for White on their 80-man roster, the Bucs released cornerback Jonathan Hefney.

Although he is under contract with Tampa Bay, White, 29, is seeking a long-term contract that is more lucrative in nature.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound former Arena Football League player notched a team-high eight sacks and seven forced fumbles while notching 50 tackles in 16 games (two starts) with the Bucs last year.

White and his Buccaneer teammates took the field at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex for their first practice on Saturday morning.
