Buccaneers quarterback Brian Griese was nominated for the FedEx NFL Air Player of the Week. The award will be chosen between Griese and quarterbacks Jason Campbell and Philip Rivers after voting concludes on Friday morning. The winner is announced Friday evening.
Griese set a franchise record for pass attempts with 67. He completed 38 of those passes for 407 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Late in the fourth quarter Griese led a 10-point comeback to force overtime. In the extra period, Griese led a 90-yard drive for the game-winning field goal.
In the vote with Griese for the FedEx NFL Air Player of the Week are Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell and San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Campbell 22 of 30 passes for 194 yards with two touchdowns. Rivers went 19 to 25 for 250 yards and three touchdowns and one interception.
The NFL made the announcement for the potential players today. For the FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week the vote is between Ronnie Brown of the Miami Dolphins, Fred Taylor of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons.
The winning players will have a $1,000 donation to Safe Kids USA made in their name. Safe Kids USA is a national non-profit organization that works to prevent accidental injury among children.
