Former Tampa Bay safety John Lynch is scheduled to hold a press conference at One Buc Place Monday to announce his retirement. A nine-time Pro Bowler, Lynch played with the Bucs from 1993-03 and was a member of Tampa Bay's Super Bowl XXXVII team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have another name and jersey number to add to the Ring of Honor the team plans to unveil in 2009.

One month after honoring retired fullback Mike Alstott, the Buccaneers will host a press conference Monday at One Buccaneer Place, where former Tampa Bay safety John Lynch will announce his retirement from the NFL.

A nine-time Pro Bowler, five of which came in Tampa Bay, Lynch originally entered the NFL with the Bucs as a third-round draft pick out of Stanford. He played for the Bucs from 1993-03 and was a member of Tampa Bay's Super Bowl XXXVII team. He currently ranks fifth all-time in franchise history with 973 tackles and finishes his career with 13 sacks and 26 interceptions.

The Bucs released Lynch during the 2004 offseason due to salary cap challenges and concerns regarding his surgically repaired neck. Lynch eventually signed with Denver, where he played from 2003-07 before being released during the 2008 offseason.

Two weeks later, Lynch signed with New England, but the Patriots released him on Aug. 15.

No player has worn the number 47 jersey for the Buccaneers in a regular season game since Lynch was released in ‘04. Tampa Bay is expected to retire the jersey numbers of Alstott and Lynch when it unveils a Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium next year in honor of the 30th anniversary of the 1979 Bucs NFC Championship team.

As it should be, Lynch to retire as a Buccaneer. Few players command the respect of their fellow players and love of the fans as he did. "Friendly Fire", was a joy to watch. Best wishes.

I love it that Alstott and Lynch retired a Buc but I wished that Warren Sapp would have gotten the same accalades. I'll put it this way ...the D-line hasn't been the same without him and what ever happened to Simeon Rice???!!!

47 was the man. Maybe one day he'll be in the organization as a scout or a coach?? He deserves to be honored. Thanks for the hits Mr. Lynch.

I agree with gtskyrider, Sapp should have been able to retire a Buc and have # 99 retired in the Ring of Honor

Its all Creepy Gremlin Al Davis's fault. He knows Sapp is going to the Hall of Fame, and he won't release his rights, because some how the twisted old bastard thinks having another Raider jersey in the Hall means something, even if they barely played their, and made their career elsewhere. Sapp wants to retire a Buc, just root for Al Davis to die.
