Oakland Raiders free agent guard Cooper Carlisle is scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today. Carlisle, 31, has spent the past two seasons with Oakland. He has started 69 games since entering the NFL out of Florida.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have expressed interest in a number of players, but went through the first day of free agency without any signings or visits.

That will change on Saturday.

Oakland Raiders free agent guard Cooper Carlisle is scheduled to visit the Buccaneers today, his agent told PewterReport.com.

Carlisle, 31, has started 69 of the 126 games he's played in since entering the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick out of Florida.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound Carlisle began his pro career in Denver, but he's spent the past two seasons with Oakland, starting 31 games for the Raiders. Before signing with Oakland, Tampa Bay expressed interest in signing Carlisle.

Carlisle was arguably Oakland's best offensive lineman and has thrived in the zone blocking scheme new Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski is in the process of implementing in Tampa Bay.

Carlisle's visit with the Bucs is a curious one seeing as the team has first- and second-round draft picks invested in starting guards Davin Joseph, a 2009 Pro Bowl alternate, and Arron Sears.

The Bucs have also expressed interest in several other free agents, including cornerbacks Jamar Fletcher and Jabari Greer, offensive tackle Khalif Barnes, defensive end Antonio Smith and wide receivers Devery Henderson and Nate Washington.

Carlisle isn't the only Raiders player the Bucs are interested in acquiring. The Bucs have also expressed interest in trading for Raiders running back Michael Bush.

Aquaman

YES!!!! Then they can cut Mahan and have even MORE cap room.....to do next to nothing with.

We don't need a guard. They're not focusing on our needs!

(agrees with Aquaman)

This is just depth guys. If we want a QB to develop for us, we need to make sure we keep him protected all year. Nothing wrong with signing this guy to a 2-3 contract if he is good.

That makes alot of sense JDouble!

But I think Tampa really needs to focus on what wins chamionships. Defense!!

If this is for depth fine but don't go around screwing with the OL now...OBD

They've got major issues on both sides of the ball. They must hit in the draft this season. They really need more draft picks..

A team can never have enough depth on the OL and the Bucs have had injuries the last couple or maybe even several years. If Carlisle is good at zone blocking and not too pricey it's a good move and gives the team insurance where we've had to endure past injuries. It's a positive IMO...

Doesn't really coincide with their youth movement philosophy. Perhaps he has zone blocking experience and they're bringing him in for mentoring purposes, or perhaps to light a fire under Sears and Joseph to max their potential.

If the bucs continue to roll over cap space - they might have more cap room than the actual salary cap in a year or two. :)

this sucks
no one is even scheduled to visit no wide outs no nothing what about phillips or haye i mean this is horrible really no visits wow
we are the laughing stock of the nfl washington had no cap room and they somehow get the highest paid contract to haynesworth we have all the cap room and we trade away draft picks saving money on second round money really cheap man j stevens could have came back and we would have all our picks i think he is better and healthier that K2 i hope i'm wrong but this is crappy couldnt we have saved draft picks and signed lj smith obviously the BUCS do not care about there product on the field but they do care about filling the stand so miserable

did u guys remove the free agent tracker because you did want to be the only people in tampa tracking free agents sorta neet

we traded two picks for K 2 and the chiefs got cassel and vrabel for there second that is great

3:19pm, February 28, 2009

JDouble

Wow.....they did. If I knew that then ya.....we shoulda definetly taken a chance on Cassel. I, along with everyone else I assume, thought you'd have to give up a first round pick + to get Cassel.

We should fire our front office and hire the Redskins becasue these idiots are upgrading our strengths and can never win a bid on the best players even though we can over bid the other teams. How does that happen over and over again?

3:42pm, February 28, 2009

jcecilia

I hear guys talking about Kassel, he would not have worked with Jags systems, if you watch his games he never threw the deep ball even though he had Randy Moss. Everything he threw was short to intermediate.

hey carlisle stay home i like all our lineman way more than you so please stay home jeremy davin and aaron are studs all guards and all should stay with the bucs what is going on at one buc place even these writers from the pewter report are quite i do not think this guy makes us a better team if any of our o lineman get cut for this guy i will complain forever

rockinator500

When Bush was drafted i hoped the BUCS would be able to grab him in the forth but the raiders snaged him up a couple picks ahead of us. I was thinking if we let him sit the first year he would be an explosive down hill back ill cross my fingers we can get him. Also didnt care about losen out on Haynesworth, Vilma would have been nice though

4:18pm, February 28, 2009

JFS414

Maybe this a prelude to the Bucs moving Zuttah to RT and trading Trueblood for a pick(s).
