Ward To Start In Place Of Williams |
![]() Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Cadillac Willams has knee soreness and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game (Cliff Welch) |
Tampa Bay running back Derrick Ward will start vs. his former team Sunday when the Bucs host the New York Giants. Ward will start in place of RB Cadillac Williams, who has knee soreness and is questionable for the game. Bucs WR Antonio Bryant is also questionable. Read the full injury report in this story.
Two of those backs - Cadillac Williams (knee) and Earnest Graham (hamstring) - are listed as questionable for Tampa Bay's game vs. the New York Giants. Williams is optimistic that he will play.
"Yeah, more of a game time (decision), but the way I'm feeling now, I should be good (to play)," Williams said. "[It is] a lot better than it was a few days ago. I went out there today and did some things, so a lot better."
Williams, who suffered two major knee injuries in consecutive seasons from 2007-08, has what the Bucs have deemed "knee soreness." Williams started the first two games of the year and currently is the team's leading rusher with 106 yards on 20 carries (5.3 avg.) and two total touchdowns.
"Yeah, he's got soreness from the turf," Bucs head coach Raheem Morris said Friday. "He had full participation today, but we'll have to wait and see."
While it's unclear whether he'll play, Williams will not start vs. the Giants. Instead, the Bucs will start former Giants RB Derrick Ward, who has rushed for 94 yards (4.5 avg.) and scored a touchdown.
"We're going to start Derrick. He'll get the first crack at his old boys," said Morris. "I don't even know that we have a starter around here. We have a three-headed monster."
In addition to Williams and Graham, the Bucs also have running back/return specialist Clifton Smith listed on the injury report. He is nursing a quad injury, but is listed as probable for Sunday's game.
Should Smith not be able to make it through Sunday's contest, Bucs rookie wide receiver Sammie Stroughter would handle punt and kickoff return duties.
Tampa Bay is also banged up at wide receiver, where Antonio Bryant and Maurice Stovall are dealing with knee injuries. Stovall said he sustained the knee injury during the game against the Bills, and would be a game-time decision for Sunday. Stovall was tight-lipped about what was exactly wrong with his knee.
"I don't know if I can speak about my injury," said Stovall. "I'm aright. I'll be fine."
Stovall, who started in place of Bryant last week, is listed as doubtful. Bryant, who missed the entire preseason after undergoing minor knee surgery in training camp, caught two passes in Tampa Bay's regular season opener before leaving that contest due to soreness in his knee.
Last week, Bryant was listed as doubtful on the Friday injury report. He did not play vs. the Buffalo Bills. The Bucs currently have Bryant listed as questionable, and Morris said the team has seen some improvement in his health status.
"We saw movement, he had a couple of limited days and his work with the trainer," said Morris. "All those things, and his mentality, were part of that. He's getting better and better as we speak."
Should Stovall and Bryant be unable to play vs. the Giants, Bucs wide receiver Brian Clark would make the first start of his pro career. Outside of Bryant, linebacker Matt McCoy is listed as questionable with a back injury.
Bucs center Jeff Faine (triceps) and rookie defensive end Kyle Moore (knee) have already been ruled out of the upcoming game vs. the Giants. Sean Mahan will start in place of Faine for the second straight week.
Rookie defensive tackle Roy Miller (ankle), tight end John Gilmore (ankle), and cornerback Elbert Mack (shoulder) practiced most of the week and are listed as probable for the Bucs-Giants game, which kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday.
The New York Giants had a number of players ruled out for the game. That list was comprised of: defensive tackle Chris Canty (calf), wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (foot), cornerback Aaron Ross (hamstring), running back Danny Ware (elbow), and linebacker Clint Sintim (groin). Questionable for the game are: cornerback Kevin Dockery (hamstring), wide receiver Domenik Hixon (knee), defensive end Justin Tuck (shoulder), and offensive lineman Adam Koets (ankle). Giants starting safety Kenny Phillips was put on injured reserve this week, ending his season.

First off, the reason people don't enjoy or even take you seriously is you're constant "smugness" like you have some how a history of coaching an NFL franchise. At the end of the day, you're merely an "observer" or "fan" like the rest of us, and even that is questionable. Let's just deal with "facts" you're statement
Bucfan47-
"He really could hand them the playbook...As a matter of fact, I think they could announce the playcall on the big screen in-game and it still wouldn't matter. Really. It's about man-for-man talent, doesn't matter the scheme."
Again, a ridiculous statement that any regular football fan would know is just not correct.
As for last week's game you ask did I see it???
Yes, I traveled and was at the game in Buffalo. We're you??? If you had you'd know Bills fans like "Fred Jackson" better then they like Marshawn, and see him as a bigger HR threat. Brandon Jacobs is slow, you did nothing to dispell that fact. He's extremely tough to tackle, and a very good RB but the fact remains he's slow. As the pewter report already showed since Ward's departure the avg. yards per carry have dropped significantly, but I grant you they still have a strong run game something I never argued to begin with. As for you're claim on the passing game being legit...name a starting WR who has a 1,000 yard receiver on their team? Name a dynamic playmaker at WR?? I'll await you're response. The Bills have 2 WRs that are superior to anyone the giants have. Again, I never argued the Bucs are a lock to win but to completely discredit any shot of victory makes you just sound bitter and pathetic.
Oh and since you loved throwing out odds to sound like you knew what you were talking about, here's some odds for you +255 that's the actual VEGAS odds on the bucs winning on Sunday. It may not be 50/50 but it's a lot more likely then you're 50/1 garbage you were squawking about. To go a step further the line is +7.0, and 80% of the money is on the giants but the line is not moving. If you know anything about gambling/vegas a line that doesn't move, or goes in the opposite direction (reverse line movement) shows Vegas likes their risk against the lopsided betting. Thus, the "experts" the guys who make or break casinos, who follow football closer then you or I could ever imagine, think this game will be close, or at least within 7. If the Buc's are within 7, it means they got a "chance" to win this game. They may or they may not win but you're lack of legitimate analysis, and then sarcastic tone doesn't make you seem like a "football expert" like I'm sure you see yourself in you're head. It makes you seem like a douche.

Your just Negative to the Core......... now the Gru is gone.

This is a trap game for the Giants. Everybody is talking about how they should coast the next 3 games (Bucs, Chiefs, Raiders) and the expectation is that they crush the Bucs. We'll see. Don't think Ward is not up for this game.

We were already playing a lot of the backups as starters, but we can still win this game. Our offense is decent enough to win the game if the defense comes through.
go Bucs

The posters, led by BF47, who not only do not share that hope, but choose to question the intelligence of those who remain steadfast in their devotion to the team, should find another team or hobby. They certainly aren't fans with their endless echoing of their worn out statements.
BF47 has probably been to only a handful of games over the years and only became a fan of the Buccaneers when he jumped on the Superbowl bandwagon. His on-going issue is the resentment over the Gruden/Allen dismissal. Everything else he says has its' roots there.
JonGruden (poster not MNF personality) was once a fan but now is a BF47 wannabe who thinks he increases his football intelligence level by his constant criticism of a player who has yet to take his first snap.
I'm always reminded of the cartoon where the little yipping dog constantly is running around with the big bull dog threatening people while urging "Get him Spike" when I read the posts of the BF47 and Jongruden duo.
