Adams Believes HIs Chances Of Playing Sunday Are "Pretty Good"

Tampa Bay defensive end Gaines Adams was held out of practice Thursday for the second straight day. He is nursing a groin injury he sustained vs. the New York Giants last Sunday.

“I’ve played through some injuries before, but with the groin it can get very serious, so we have to be careful. It’s not like a shoulder or anything like that. It’s dealing with my legs, and I use them on every play. We don’t want to strain it more or tear it.”

Should Adams not be able to play vs. the Washington Redskins, Tim Crowder or Stylez G. White would start in his place at right defensive end. However, Adams believes his chances of playing Sunday are "pretty good."

In addition to Adams, center Jeff Faine (triceps), quarterback Byron Leftwich (hip), defensive end Kyle Moore (knee), wide receiver Antonio Bryant (knee) and running back Derrick Ward (knee) were also held out of Thursday's practice.

Wide receiver Maurice Stovall (knee), cornerback Torrie Cox (ankle), running back Earnest Graham (hamstring), defensive tackle Roy Miller (ankle), running back Cadillac Williams (knee) and RB/return specialist Clifton Smith (quad) practiced Thursday.

PewterReport.com will have more on this story later today.

Well that just helped to ruin my weekend a little.

I will be going to the UCF game maybe they can get a sack so I can see one in person this year.

I find it strange the Gaines is injured just as he has be become the fan bases whipping boy based of his poor play..Is this a move by the team to help focus blame in another direction? Is it that his ego is so damaged at this point, the team feels the harsh words from fans is contributing to his shotty play ??A move like this allows him to be unaccountable this weekend if he plays-Im not liking this...

I hope Styles and Crowder turn it up this weekend and make Adams a thing of the past-enough is enough..

I hate to say this, but I hope that he is not healty enough to play this weekend. I would love to see Chrowder get a chance. He was a monster coming into the NFL and they tried to make him a 3-4 linebacker.

Sorry Gaines...you should be held accountable just like everybody else...time to give somebody else a chance. Weve seen what you can do healthy....you think being banged up will make you play harder.

I just don't know who in the league would even want this guy.

Why don't these guys go and copy someone who is successful at pass rushing? Go copy Freeney, Gaines. That guy has moves. You need to copy successful pass rushes. Keep the listening to the coaches limited to factual stuff. Remember - they've never actually played DE so they don't really know - or at least not on this level.

Take some risks man. So if you blow a few plugs, miss a few tackles on run coverage no one cares that much at this point. Just spin, slide, just, jam and whip, jam the dudes solar plexus, elbow him in the gut... step on the guys freakin foot if you have to... just get some sacks man. That's all they want brutha. Just take some risks. Get some sacks and everyone shuts up.

Yeah screw being technical. Put on 'show time' brutha. Come on !

Gaines Adams has all of the physical tools and says the right words to make a talent evaluator think he has the necessary attributes to be a great player; which was why he was drafted by the Bucs in the top five and would have been drafted by anyone else in the top ten. What he lacks is a swagger and Sapp's "opening a can of whop-ass on you" attitude.

He was called out early in his career to "lead the league in effort" because the lack thereof was clear. He's like the kid who thinks studying 1 hour for a test is effort enough when he needs to study three.

I just don't see "it" yet.
