Bucs general manager Mark Dominik has the third pick in the draft (Cliff Welch)

The Buccaneers are going to be picking third in the NFL Draft. With the Kansas City Chiefs win over the Denver Broncos, the Bucs move to the third slot after entering Sunday with the fourth selection in the draft. Picking ahead of Tampa Bay will be the St. Louis Rams at No. 1 and the Detroit Lions at No. 2.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have the third overall selection in the first-round of the NFL Draft next April. The Bucs entered Sunday with the fourth overall pick, but after the Bucs lost to the Atlanta Falcons 20-10 and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the 44-24 Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay switched spots with the Chiefs.

Picking ahead of Tampa Bay will be two teams. The St. Louis Rams will have the number one overall pick after going 1-15. The Detroit Lions will pick second after going 2-14. The Bucs are the only 3-13 team in the NFL and select third. The 4-12 Chiefs and the 4-12 Washington Redskins will have a tie-breaker to decide who picks fourth and fifth.

It is simple:

If Suh is available take him.

If not two options:

1. Trade down a few spots (IF POSSIBLE) to get another 2nd and take Haden or Berry or a DT depending on how far down they trade.

2. Take Haden or Berry. I prefer Haden. Two damn good CBs opens your defense up to a lot of things.

After that they take a DT in round 2 because the draft is loaded with DTs and there will be a real good one available still, possibly even Cody.

The 2nd pick in round 2 should be a WR.

Round 3 & 4 should include an OT an probably a DE

I still think they should try to get Brandon Spikes and move Ruud, but it is a long shot. Spikes is an emotional leader and a run stuffer. Ruud is neither.

I also do NOT want to hear anything about Carlos Dunlap or George Selvie. Unless they are in round 3 or later. Otherwise both look like Gaines Adams all over again to me.

Its going to be a long shot for suh

Any chance they will be able to trade down? I'm pretty sure they need about 18 picks to pan out and become starters

You don't trade out of the #3 unless it's a reeeally sweet deal. And until the Senior Bowl and combines, we don't really know enough about who would fit.

Top 3 is top 3. The BEST players in the country! Take the best player available, regardless of position.

St. Louis drafts a QB, and then Detroit breaks our hearts.

McCoy is a decent consolation prize, though.

At least we know what the pick is already. We know we aren't getting Suh unless we trade up. The worst case scenario is if McCoy is also gone. If so...I don't know. If Dez Bryant runs a 4.4 or lower in the 40 I say we take him. There is a lot of depth in this draft at DT.

I don't think he will run that fast though. That leaves Berry and C.J. Spiller and others but I would take Berry by a slight margin.

A FS is not worth the 3rd pick in the draft. I'm here to tell you right now. That's like taking a WR 3rd. They don't touch the ball enough, and if you're going to go there, he better be special. I've watched Berry with my ass in the stands for 3 years, I have enjoyed watching him every Sat, but he is not worth a #3 selection.

Suh is gone to the Rams, i think thats leaves us with 3 choices...

1. Gerald McCoy
2. Eric Berry
3. Dez Bryant

Ive got a feeling Detriot takes McCoy, so its probably going to be between Dez Bryant and Eric Berry, im not going to cry over either of those picks, both will become absolute studs in the league.

Hey this is positive now that the season is over. If Suh is gone I would go for an offensive lineman or trade down. I would not trade up. We just have too many needs.
bucfan47, I agree with you.

Lions will take Suh,

But don't sweat it, Bucs are going to pick high enough to get a real good player. I think they have a chance to get three starters in this draft.

If the Rams want a QB then it's a no-brainer to trade up into the #1 slot by giving up our #3 pick along with one of our second rounders. Of course, that's if the Bucs front office believes Suh is that much better than McCoy that he's worth 2 picks. If the Rams don't want a QB, however, then they obviously take Suh.

I, for one, would be willing to give up Gaines Adams (our pick from Chicago) and our #3 pick for Suh. Well worth it in my opinion.

Actually, after looking at the draft trade value chart it'll take more than a 2nd rounder to move up into the #1 overall slot. There's a value difference from #3 to #1 of 800 points but our 2nd round picks are only worth 500 to 600 points. We'd have to throw in a 3rd rounder this year or a 2nd rounder next year, in addition, to equal the value of the Rams #1 pick.

Looks like if we want Suh, and the Rams are willing to deal, it will cost 3 picks. Is he worth it?

no its not, plain and simple.

were not a DT away from being a great team, heck were prob 6-7 STARTERS away from being a great team.

Defense: Piscatelli, Sims, Hovan, Black
Offense: Clayton, Trueblood

Those 6 for sure need upgraded

you can argue Wilkerson, Stylez, Ronde, Caddy, Zuttah all need upgraded

Its a good thing we have 10 picks in the draft, hopefully we find a steal or 2 past round 3 and we better Nail all 3 of our top 3 picks

We should ABSOLUTELY not trade ANY of our picks

9:06pm, January 3, 2010

Horse

flboyindallas, no I don't think it is worth it. It might be if that was all we needed. We need a DT, DE, CB, 2 OL, 2WR, FB, RB. I would trade my #3 pick to someone in the 26-30 area for their pick, plus a 2nd rd or a 3rd & 4th rd.

9:11pm, January 3, 2010

jongruden

The Bucs aren't trading up so please quit this silly talk. We need all of our picks and hopefully we get 3-4 starters from the draft.

Also throw that silly trade value chart away. A team like the Rams would trade down to our 3rd spot for a 2nd round pick in a heartbeat. They would get the same guy (a QB) and save $20 million in guaranteed money.

Also Pewter Report, check your stopwatch...Shipley doesn't run a 4.4, more like a mid 4.5

9:30pm, January 3, 2010

I agree with you Horse, but for the 3rd pick, I want to be more in the 12-20 range.

I guess we will find out real quick if Dominik is a good GM or an also ran. Right now they have so many spots to fill that even a Dalmation could not help. No one knows if Suh is better than McCoy or vice versa or if Berry is the right move. They might all end up being busts. It has happened a lot of times before in the draft. It is all a crap shoot when it comes to draft picks. Examples are Tony Mandarich and Ryan Leaf. Does anyone remember Booker Reese of Jack Thompson? Who ever they draft with their first three picks had better be starters right away. The big areas are the same as always. It starts up front on both sides of the ball and in the secondary. They had better concentrate on DEFENSE, DEFENSE and more DEFENSE. I just want to see the GM do something with this draft. Other GM's in the NFL actually make trades and move up or down and are successful. What a concept!!! This front office that they have right now is not very good starting with player personnel and college scouting. Free agency really has not been very successful for quite a while. Morris deserves another year because you can't put all the blame on him because of his inexperience. At least the players seem to lay it all on the line for him. I would rather see his enthusiasm than a coach that shows no life at all. Would it have helped him to be the D coordinator for a while?, certainly, but like someone once said you are what you are and they have to deal with that or make changes. It starts at the top with the owners and like a cancer, moves down through the organization.I think that the Bucs are a distant memory with the Glazers now that they have Man U. If that is the case they need to do us all a favor and sell the team to someone who cares and bleeds Pewter.

In a perfect world it would go like this:

1. STL: QB- Jimmy Clausen
2. DET: OT- Russel Okung
3. TB: DT- Suh

ray11_2006

If the rams pick up suh then lions pick mccoy then that would leave us to try to trade down to like 8-20 get brian price out of ucla or haden

10:55pm, January 3, 2010

FLBoyInDallas

atrain70: If the Rams take Clausen at #1 then the Lions are going to get at least 4-5 offers to move up into their #2 slot to take Suh. And that, of course, assumes they don't want to take Suh themselves. I don't think there's any way he lasts to #3. No way.

I have copycat log on names now, everyone is trying to be Jongruden can't blame them but at least put a #2 behind it so people won't confuse us

This is the originals jongruden to prove it I hate JDouble, but I want to say I like Haden or Dez Bryant with the first pick

As I recall JDouble is the guy that predicted we were going to run for eight yards every time we ran the ball this last year. Anybody else remember that.

I think what makes the tampa 2 unique is a DT that can pressure the quarterback (Sapp) and a MLB (Quarles) that can play the run and get back into coverage. With that said I think we should trade up and get SUH or if the asking price is to high trade down and get Spikes.

Trade up? NO NO NO

This teams needs to try everything to trade down some and get more picks. It is how the Cowboys were built in the 1990's: LOTS OF DRAFT PICKS. Not all your eggs in one basket. If you have alot, you are bound to hit on some and the misses don't hurt as much.

If no Suh and no trade down: I would prefer Haden over Berry because 2 shutdown CBs would do wonders and Berry plays the same position as TJax. I disagree that a safety is not worth a number 3 though (as BucFan47 said). Have you seen the difference Ed reed, Troy P, or Bob Sanders make for their teams?

Just pointint that out, I still think D-Line is the utmost importance and 2 of the first 5 picks should be for the D-Line.
