Ownership Confirms Morris Will Remain Head Coach In Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris will remain the team's head coach in 2010. Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer confirmed the news in a statement released late Monday night. Morris went 3-13 in his first season as Tampa Bay's head coach.

Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris will remain Tampa Bay's head coach in 2010.

That news was confirmed in a statement released by Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer late Monday night.

"We are committed to the plan that we began 12 months ago with Coach Morris, and we look forward to building on the pieces that were put in place this season," said Glazer.

The Bucs went 3-13 during the 2009 regular season, which was Morris' first on the job. He fired offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski 10 days before the regular season started and demoted defensive coordinator Jim Bates midway through the season. Tampa Bay's offense and defense finished the season ranked 28th and 27th, respectively.

Morris remains the NFL's youngest head coach and avoids the fate suffered by the last head coach to go 3-13 in Tampa Bay (Richard Williamson - 1991).

One part of the original report stated the Bucs coaching staff would coach a team in the Senior Bowl later this month. However, Bucs officials denied that report, which came from 620 WDAE host Steve Duemig, on Monday night.

The report regarding ownership's decision to retain Morris comes just hours after ESPN reported that former Pittsburgh head coach Bill Cowher likely would remain retired. It was reported a few weeks ago by NFL.com that the Bucs had contacted Cowher in December regarding possibly coaching the team in 2010.

Morris, 33, became the youngest head coach in the National Football League when he was promoted one year ago to replace Jon Gruden, the franchise's all-time winningest head coach.

The Bucs promoted Morris several times during his seven-year tenure with the organization. Morris spent seven of the past eight seasons with the Bucs.

Morris originally joined the Bucs in 2002 as a defensive quality control coach, working under then-defensive backs coach Mike Tomlin, who currently is the head coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After helping the Bucs win Super Bowl XXXVII, Morris was promoted to defensive assistant in 2003 and to assistant defensive backs coach in 2005.

In 2006, Morris left Tampa Bay to become the defensive coordinator at Kansas State. During his absence, the Bucs' secondary fell apart, which prompted the team to fire Greg Burns and lure Morris back to Tampa Bay to serve as the defensive backs coach. The Bucs' play against the pass dramatically improved with Morris' return, going from 19th in 2006 to 1st in the NFL in '07.

Shortly after former Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin announced he was leaving the franchise for the Tennessee Volunteers near the end of the 2008 season, Morris was named Kiffin's successor. He was promoted to head coach a few weeks later after Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen were fired on Jan 16, 2009.

Morris signed a four-year contract that included a team option after two years following the dismissal of Gruden. Unless he takes a job elsewhere in the NFL, Morris will be on Tampa Bay's books for about $900,000 in 2010. Gruden still is owed approximately $5 million per year in 2010 and 2011 unless he takes a coaching job in the NFL. He currently serves as an analyst for ESPN.

Next season will be a completely different season. Mistakes will not be repeated and we will make leaps and bounds in the progression of this team that is ours...

Congrads to the organization for making a command decision early and getting this off the table of conversation. Now Morris can move forward without reservations of what is going to happen with him and concentrate his efforts on improving this team.

Go Rah and Go Bucs!

4-12 in 2010...Glad to see all the tools stepping into line....Glazers will never leave Tampa-they can put shit on the field, you guys will complain about the smell for a week then steadily eat it up...Hope you all enjoy your circle jerk,Tampa seems to be filled with pinheads..

I think that is the best move...he has the team and a boatload of draft picks coming...uh oh the haters are going to be mad!!! LOL

If this news is true I agree with the above sentiments. I also love it when our staff coaches the senior bowl. Our coaching staff got a first hand look at and later drafted players like Cadillac Williams and Tanard Jackson.

Those practices with the coaches are so valuable. You find out what kind of heart those players have and you can't find out that kind of stuff in an interview. I just hope we have our new position coaches in place by then.

Nice to see Morris return for another year, he isn't perfect but the players love him and he needs at least two years to show what he's got. I guess I have to change my log on to Raheem Morris now, it's called supporting your teams coach so go ahead and bag on me so- called Bucs fans you've been telling me how bad Gruden was after a super bowl and three division championships

I also agree that this is the best move.

If ownership will take a few radical steps like lowering prices in 2010, and spending some money on free agents worth bringing to Tampa, they will be rewarded with more fans in the seats, including me.

Awesome news! Coaching the Senior Bowl will give us a real leg up on scouting the top draft picks.

As far as Rheem getting his 2nd year, I'm happy. I'm not going to argue with anyone about all the mistakes made this year and who was responsible. The facts are Rheem is a better coach now than he was at the beginning of the season. He has this team believing they can win and playing hard. He deserves a real chance to show what he can do.

Also, even though Cowher is probably my favorite coach after Dungy...I'm not ready to give up on our guys. Rheem, Dom, even Olsen are our guys. They have been around this organization for years and carry on our history. I'd much rather see us attain greatness our way with our guys. Running an evovled Tampa Two and watching Freeman develope into a great QB...rather than some outsiders coming in here, some other team's old hero, changing everything from the ground up. Let's atleast give our guys a chance to get this thing going again...our way.

Go Bucs!

I'm with Crem. Why is everyone satisfied with a 3 win season???!!! This team used to be GREAT and now we're suppose to be happy with losing seasons. Yea, "seasons" -- with an "s", because next year will be a losing seaon too. So much for the winning tradition Dungy and Gruden started an maintained.

Sorry, I remember all those years of losing. I know what that crap looks like and what I saw this year was vintage 1980's.

It's all about money with the Glazers. They're draining the life out of this team. This is Culverhouse 2.0. I'd rather have Daniel Snyder -- at least he's not satisfied with losing.

Prediction: AB won't be back next season because they won't pay him. You watch, they'll make it look like AB wanted a fortune, but don't believe it. So, the Bucs will go into next season with an even weaker WR corp. Yea, that's going to help Freeman. God help us!

Seriously? Did somebody already throw out a 4 -12 prediction without us even knowing who will be wearing the uniform next year? Seriously?

Oh well. Just showing their true knowledge of the game I guess.

A question for PR or anybody else that may know. The compensatory picks begin at the end of the 3rd round. Your provided a comp pick by the league based off of certain criteria. Are the Bucs in position to gain any comp picks based off of some player losses this year?

I like McClain from Bama, with a push from the D-Line it would matter if you had Patrick Willis back there the D-Line has to keep the push and not give up running lanes which they did all year long we might have the worst D Tackle combo in the league, Ruud is fine just give him help

I'm ok with this as well....like posters above said I'm willing to give it 2 years to see if we see improvement. I'm with you 100% to on McClain jongruden....man is a thumper and also calls the defenses something that Spikes does not have the responsibility of doing. Great news on the Senior Bowl as well.......we all know this draft is going to mean a lot in matters of success for this team next year so any extra look we can get at players is a plus.

On a side note watching the Fiesta Bowl right now and I REALLY like this kid Kyle Wilson, CB for BSU. Listed at 5'10, 190lbs but seems to play greatzone coverage and nearly took the TCU's QB's head off on a blitz. Projected 3rd rounder.

10:09pm, January 4, 2010

x's & o's

yep...good move I guess....although the GM might need to go. RAA will be good in free agency...if the Glazers can find their monopoly money under the couch in the living room. Senior bowl is a plus although half our coaches are leaving...it might be RAA and O Coordinator and Buc o Bruce the pirate mascot.
Maybe we can find the Water Boy at linebacker from South West Mud Ass State and not play him like Gruden did cat -o -lack. we could use an upgrade there or at least some quality H2O!

On a more serious note....I think we need a clean break from the past and should consider a uniform change...nothing major....tweek the colors and the design a bit....get more fashionable....I would either recommend the old TB Storm zebra pants...in Pewter and Red of course....MC Hammer pants.....or a big sleeved pirate shirt.
you see...we are completely irrelavent right now...you only become relavent 3 ways....(1) you suck so bad everyone talks about how bad you suck every week; (2) you are so good that everyone talks about that; (3) or there is something different about your team ....two headed QB...and one of the heads speaks a different lanquage; you have Manute Bol as your third down RB....or the biggest loser ...loser...the one that didnt loose the weight....carries snacks out to the team during time outs.......Given I dont want to see #1.....and we are a few years away from #2......and as much as I would like to see #3...I vote for Hammer pants and maybe the pirate shirt....until we get good again.....we will become instantly relavent! GO BUC's

Meh I don't hate ya Crem...you've actually posted some pretty funny stuff on here. Everyone on here is entitled to their own opinion. Part of what makes forums fun is the different point of views. That being said I don't think anyone on here is happy with a 3 win season.....just some, like myself, don't mind giving Heem one more year to show if he's learned. But feel free to rant brother.....it's your right.

Alright now, that appears settled and final! How can the Bucs improve next season ?

Our current personel needs to be pared down to those who will be contributing in 2010. Get rid of the dead wood. I mean they are good guys, but we need to up-grade. Start with Clayton, Hovan, Ryan Simms, and seriously folks maybe even Sabby, and Trueblood!

Draft well and best athlete available. I mean we have needs everywhere if not for starters, some solid back-ups. At number 3 pick its a win-win position. No trading up that's for sure. We'll take what's there at 3. If it goes Oh first at DT, McCoy 2nd at DT, then we take Berry out of Tennesse. With Berry, Tanard, and Talib as DBs we will be set for 5-6 years! Don't lose any picks to trade up. I would like to use both #2s for some soild picks. Maybe a Spikes from Florida, or a Spiller(RB) from Clemson! With a solid draft AND the Glazers opening of the checkbook for some quality free agents combined with a maturing Freeman at QB it makes me excited about the team's potential. You know what, now that i'm thinking about it... just let Antonio Bryant go. He clearly is our ace WR, BUT he is always injured and a bit of a malcontent. If he gives us the hometeam discount, he stays! If he wants 30mil or so over 5 years, can't help you dude. Your outta here! But, you must replace him with a bonifide #1 WR for Freeman to throw to. He can't sling it to K2 all of the time! That's a start, anybody got any thoughts or reactions? Last thing, I'm real worried about Rheem doing double duties as Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. He does a great job with the Defense, its just that as a young coach you really need to oversee the entire team, special teams, offense, defense, and personel. I think it must be really hard as a young coach to have a Coordinator/ Head Coach position. Maybe get Jimmy Lake back here or Marinelli to coach the defense under the watchful eye of Morris... i'm just saying!

10:15pm, January 4, 2010

now they need to get rid of hickey so that another draft doesnt get screwed up! he is an idiot- zemitis, adams, dexter jackson- cant even speak to the media!

That's funny X & O....I suggested that awhile back. If are intent is to change our identity to a bigger meaner hard nosed team, maybe we should update the uniforms. I like the idea of black and pewter being the main colors with white and red just being highlight colors...and a meaner logo. Here's my desktop!

shaaslaw

i suppose that with the Glazers we will either spend some money on a new coach or 1 or 2 new players, so I'll take 1 or 2 new players because we really need it. There are no stars on this team, and our WR corp is only going to get worse. AB is likely gone, Clayton should be cut, and Stovall is a 3rd receiver at best. Sunday's offense was so boring. I agree with PR's other story where they say our O-Line is overrated despite the investments we've made in picks and free-agency. It's bad news because there's so much to fix.

Although not a fan of Freeman pick at first, he might be good BUT he has to have good players to throw to.

If Raheem is staying for 2010, Raheem needs to say less and do more. He thinks he needs to rattle off sentences to impress, but it's annoying.

We learned that we would have been better off if Raheem stayed at DC for a year or 2. However, now that he's coach, it'd be hard to step down and stay on as only DC.

unfortunately, we'd be lucky if we win 6 games next year.

10:28pm, January 4, 2010

cremdonado

Free Agency will be a big tell on how Heem is truly viewed by the players and this league..I don't see many guys heading this way, call me crazy(or worse).I dont think a 3-13 season is much of a selling point for guys who have already given a few years of their lives and bodies to the league. Most free agents want to go where the winning is-where there is a chance for a Super bowl ring,I just don't think Tampa has become one of those places-even with a young players coach like Heem.I would have liked Dungy to have been brought in to help mentor Rah and give our team some credibility I think that is lacking after this season..

But Heem is the coach(to this point),we will have to wait and see I guess-Im not a fan of this move, but who cares...
The senior bowl can do some damage to this teams image if the coaches dont produce a well rounded game-another huge test for Heem and Co..

I remain pessimistic about our future and until something concrete happens to show otherwise-I'm gonna sling sh*t..

All you heros out there wouldnt be anything if it wasnt for us villains...
We will just have to wait and see....

10:30pm, January 4, 2010

I was looking at the final roster names, specifically at the Wide Out position. Here is our WRs at years end:

Mark Bradley
Mario Urrutia
Michael Clayton
Micheal Spurlock
Terrance Nunn
Maurice Stovall
Brain Clark
Antonio Bryant... with Kelly Campbell and Sammie Stroughter on Injured Reserve! That's pretty sad. Antonio Bryant is the key to this staff. With him we need a little WR help, without him we need major help. I say we keep: Spurlock, Stovall, Stroughter, and AB if he gives us that hometeam discount. Without AB we need some experienced free agents to round out the staff and a #1 to replace AB if he leaves. I'm just saying...

10:33pm, January 4, 2010

goofie21

i think year two of Raheem will be better. First when we went back to the tampa 2 they instantly improved. Second when olsen had some time to implement his offense the o started to improve a little. With a few pieces in the draft and through free agency we can be a playoff team. There where enought close losses that if we had a few pieces we would be a winning team. I'm glad that tampa gets to coach the senior bowl, so that we get to see the prospects a little before everyone else.

10:35pm, January 4, 2010

bucfan999

Well I think that the Falcons game will be the last home game we will see for a few years. The stadium was over 1/2 empty this past Sunday and next year with the amount of season ticket holders who will not renew it will be 3/4 empty next year. I know I will be one who doesn't renew next year not only because we pay on average the 2nd most money for our season tickets but we have ownership that doesn't care about winning. They are cheap on the payroll for the players and go cheap with the coaching staff. Keeping RAH RAH shows just how cheap they are and that they only care about keeping the payroll down. Hugh Culverhouse has risen from the grave and is running the Buccaneer franchise again and it's a reduex of the 80's once again when we had 14 years of double diget losses every year. COME ON GLAZERS, STOP PLAYING AND SELL THIS TEAM TO AN OWNER WHO WANTS TO PUT A WINNING TEAM ON THE FIELD.

I have an idea why not sell the Bucs to EDDIE DEBARTOLO JR. and they turn around and buy the Jacksonville Jaguars and then move them to Los Angeles and you can take RAH RAH with you.

10:35pm, January 4, 2010

FLBoyInDallas

Hey creamdonut...just because you didn't get your way doesn't mean the fan base are a bunch of pinheads. It's just that most of us are a little less emotional than yourself and aren't willing to kick someone to the curb too quickly. Raheem deserves another year to build on the progress we've seen the last 4 games. With free agency, the draft and a full offseason under his belt with the coordinators he really wants, there's a good chance of going .500+ next season in my opinion. No need to throw a big temper tantrum just because things happened to go against your wishes, man.

I think it is important to draft well. But most of the college kids will not make the impact we need now. We must get great FA picks also. Not much has been said but I think our kicker and punter are fine. Get AB signed Fast.

10:41pm, January 4, 2010

shaaslaw

bucballer, you are being too generous. Even with AB (which is unlikely), we need a lot of help at WR. That was the problem this year. The media tried to convince us that re-signing Clayton was an upgrade of some kind???

re-signing Clayton for 5yr 25 million was the dumbest move, given what we knew going in. If someone told Clayton would finish with 16 catches and 1 td, would you be surprised? Not me. He must be cut this off-season. If we go through another pre-season of how things have changed and how he's going to light it up, then jokes on us ----again.

Sadly, the only legit receiver we really can look to next year is Stroughter.

Crem, while trying to sound like you don't care you actually sound like you are a sniveling little bitch. Most of us also have lives outside of these boards, we are just tired of haters trying to "get to us" when you really just make us laugh. You are not an independent thinker by hating Morris, you are actually part of the masses. We are not sheep because we support the Bucs, we are fans because we realize there is nothing to do but support our team and hope that there are better days ahead of us. Empty promises of not renewing season tickets that you never held and not buying jerseys you never planned on buying isn't scaring anybody. So we move on and hope people learn from there mistakes and holes are filled and we can compete next year. If you don't feel the same you obviously have not been a Tampa Bay fan for long... Come on man, quit being a douche and lets just get along. We are all here to root for our team and look for improvement and then for us to win games and then win it all. Isn't that what we all want?

The team has a number of issues to address. Players, staff, etc... HC and GM are both huge. Either can make or break FA and other roster moves. I agree with what most have said above.

Why the hate with other opinions? Regardless of how individuals choose to voice their opinions, they're just opinions. And, regardless of how WE feel, if the stands are as empty next season as they were for Sunday's game...Morris, Cowher, Dungy, or Lombardi's job wouldn't be safe as HC in Tampa.

x's &o's

JDouble....I like the design....better than we have now....we could also change the skull to a picture of Gruden makin the "face" the "i just tasted horse piss" face that we know and love....a third option would be to have a picture of RAA in that Eddie Murphy Gumby suit......pewter and red.

we are all just going to have to be a little patient here....we will have to build from the draft. that or go back and get some of the great talent that Gruden chased out of town and given them a second chance...Semion RIce; Jeff Garcia; Chris Simms; Mike Pittman; Bruce Gradkowski; Keshawn; Todd Steusie......YIKES....how did we make the playoffs those years!

we get a good draft.....get rid of some dead wood (about 14 of 22 starters) and its all good. Piscitelli needs to go....I heard he was going to open up his own restaurant but couldn't spell his last name and he didnt think a bar and grill called "good eats" would sell....so he's coming back for another year as the guy you always see trailing the highlight reel play.

11:07pm, January 4, 2010

flash_kiley

Awesome. Glad to see Raheem is staying around. The team wants to win for Raheem. They played harder for themselves and for each other. I know we finished 3-13, but I think our future is brighter than a lot of teams that finished with better records( panthers, falcons, giants, to name a few).

Let's look optimistically towards free agents and then the draft. With a solid outing from each, we could end up with 5-8 new starts. With possibly 3-4 being new difference makers.

We have a coach in place, a hungry team, and a good position in the draft and under the cap. Go Bucs!

I totally agree with the decision to bring back Raheem. Is he supposed to apologize for taking a dream job that's offered to him....NO? I don't know about you guys but Raheem is not all to blame for their record. I didn't see Raheem drop a pass in the endzone or fumble the ball or fail to convert on 3rd and short or jump offsides or get a holding call....se where I'm going? I'd love to see these so-called Buc fans and haters try to handle the pressure Raheem has had to endure this season. This man gets up every day and pours his heart into this team and it's efforts to get better. And nobody has even mentioned the huge turn around that happened with the defense since he took over play calling duties.....let's talk about that! I definitely see the team moving in the right direction. Raheem has my full support!

OK Rah stays. This likely means Olson stays too.

The question now is - will we hire a dedicated DC in 2010, or will Raheem continue in his dual role?

I'm firmly of the opinion that we need to clean out some of our dead-wood assistant coaches. Mangurian should be first to go.

Some free agents to ponder:

Steve Breaston WR
Devone Bess WR
Kevin Walter WR
Marcus McNeil OL
Elvis Dumervil DE
Vince Wilfork DT
Tank Tyler DT
Shawne Merriman LB
DeMeco Ryans LB
Marlin Jackson CB
Richard MarshallCB
Roman Harper SS

All of these guys could either be starters immediately or provide much needed depth.

Man I hope free agency is exciting. It's a good time to be a Tampa Bay fan.

did you chose "Bad Brains" for your screen name cuz somebody else beat you to" Bad Ass "?

Technically Olson doesn't have to remain OC if he stays. His contract is for the QB coach position. He just filled in for Jagz when he was fired. We could still retain Olson as QB coach and bring in Weiss as OC. That way we have continuity for Freeman as far as his QB coach but we have an upgrade in our offensive game planning. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

With Raheem likely now able to bring in more of the coordinators he wants things are looking up.

Bess and Dumervil from that FA list above.

Let's pretend for minute that all of the haters out there found out tomorrow that they not only got their boss's job, but they were given thier boss's boss's job! The company's owners saw real talent in the hater's work. They knew that they didn't have the degrees that normally were needed, but they felt a strong work ethic and a pasionate person with talent was worth training. Do you honestly think the hater's first year would be a success? No, but with enough work, on the job training, and lessons learned, I will take talent, and passion everytime.
It is now Raheems team! With a full year of decisions (bad and good) under his belt, a team that has bled together, and a potentially strong draft coming, I think next year will be a whole different story. Not to mention our strength schedule next year compared to this years.
Good luck Raheem, show everybody what you learned and lead this young team to a long run of victory!

Finerdetailz

Now that this decision has been made.. Ownership will have to be huge in FA and draft. If they move up and take Suh without mortgaging the farm, that would be a great start. I would think from a business point to get season tickets sales up now that they didn't go after Cower, money will have to be spent. Otherwise this will look like the cheap way out which they don't need.

FilmBuc

Crem is just a pissed off fan of a 3-13 team. Which he should be.

But... this is the right move by the Glazers. The Bucs are not an aging roster of washed up vets with no chance of improving. They are a young team with some promising players with a slew of draft picks and cap room.

But - as someone stated above - free agency is not where this team will turn things around. That rests solely with the draft. List all of the Buc legends of the past 15 years. Outside of Simeon and Hardy (and even a pass to Brad Johnson) all the truly great buc players have come via the draft: Brooks, Sapp, Lynch, Ronde, Alstott, etc...

Outside of Winslow, Faine, and (maybe) AB, all of the promising players on the roster (TJack, Talib, ruud, Hayes, Freeman, Stroughter, etc...) have come through the draft as well.

The fate of this franchise rests in 11 decisions that will be made in April.

12:11am, January 5, 2010

johnnyred, you failed to mention that mangement cut the hater's budget by a significant amount, making it impossible for him to succeed.

I am glad the Glazers didn't let this thing linger and addressed it quickly so everyone was not up in the air for days or weeks. I do think Duemig's ass kissing today opened the door for him to break the news. Rah must of heard him and made sure he was the first to know.

12:14am, January 5, 2010

Filmbuc... agree but don't think Ruud should be listed. He was a real disappointment this year. Way too many tackles after the line of scrimmage.

Everyone who says that the Glazers don't want to spend money, do you forget that we actually offered Albert Haynesworth more money than the Redskins (100 Million Dollars!!)? I don't understand the people that say the Glazers don't want to spend money.

Trueblood needs to get gone-too many penalties, not enough talent to warrant it...

Rudd was a victim of a weak defensive line-when the push up front gets pushed back,so do the linebackers...(not to say he played up to his level either)-he needs competition for his place in the line up,he'll come around...

I gotta check on this-
Where all my 56%ers at ?!-

12:39am, January 5, 2010

Crem I agree with the Rudd comment. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about football know that a linebackers performance(s) relies heavily on their defensive tackles. If a DT requires a double team that leaves one less offensive lineman to go into the second level of the defense and vice versa.

Let' s see. If we started with freeman, no bates and olsen (well he's still trying to get a clue) and morris we could have won 6 or 7 games... uhhh maybe.

Who was the idiot who fired all the veterans again?

Well we need some - really good ones. We need to get some prime drafts and trade up for some winning personalities - leaders.

Someone needs to smack freeman upside the head before every game - make him mad (or he needs to watch 'the waterboy') to activate him (just like that one hit did in Seattle that lasted through New orleans game).

Raheem will learn. he just needs to stop trying so hard and drop that 'real men' tough guy nonsense. (what a joke) He should maximize his personality.

Anyways.... plenty more observations from my 2 cents but that's it for now

I wonder how many Steeler fans whined this much when Cowher was spending 14 years building a Superbowl winner? (No forum such as this has existed until relatively recently).

Rebuilding is rebuilding, across the board. Now, if the Glazers truly aren't going to spend money, then we're hosed. So far, I'm not sure that's what I've seen - I've seen money committed in the form of contracts, its just been spent badly. I see an overreaction, perhaps, to Gruden/Allen and the way they did things.

Perhaps more than one season of patience is in order. Perhaps some continuity with the youngsters as this young team is built would be helpful. Or, we just start over every year, as this model seems to be doing wonders for Detroit, Cleveland the Raiders.

bucballer: Kelly Campbell was waived injured earlier in the season.

Who is this impostor posing as jongruden?

It was refreshing to read your posts accepting as Rhonde would say, "it is what it is." One doesn't have to "drink the kool-aid" to be supportive and hope for the best of things we can't change. It doesn't mean we are blind to the multitude of poor decisions.

No one liked the results of this past season and no one finds anything short of play-offs as acceptable. But, I did believe there was enough of an improvement to warrant another year with this time having the benefit of the OTA's , training camp and stability with the staff.

It had to be tough for Morris to take on this daunting task thinking he could at least count on two experienced coordinators who were such a disappointment. What I liked is that he showed no hesitation in firing their ass. That reservation/loyalty of Dungy and his slew of inept offensive coordinators cost him his job.

Time to move on to what should prove to be an entertaining off-season.

No other coach can come in and make this team any better at this point. A good draft, smart decisions by GM and Coach are necessary to be successful in 2010. There are pieces in place on both sides of the ball for this team to respond to Raheem. Patience is the key and Bucs will be back!!!

Lets be clear its not about pinhead fans as one ass calls it, its not about coach morris, its not about mark its has everything to do with the owners at the top where it all starts. The draft and F/A wont mean anything if we only open the checkbook to sign the 3rd overall pick and the glazers spend nothing else like last year after freeman was signed. Kellen Winslow yes was great and Ward was ok. Buc for life....Go Bucs

8:17am, January 5, 2010

The news was on espn last night bucfan. I agree that I believe we will see us more active in FA this year as well. Ownership will have to make a "splash" landing to generate some buzz this offseason. If we could find a way to land Wilfork and Kampman as well as a reciever like Breaston I'd be excited.

8:30am, January 5, 2010

lindanjim

This is a good move by ownership because, if nothing else, it gives Freeman another year with the same coaches to adapt to the NFL. Everyone's seen what happened to Jason Campbell, and that's not what we want to do to Freeman.

FLBoyInDallas- I'm pretty sure I remember reading a while back that Olsen was given a contract for '09 & '10 to be the offensive coordinator once he took over for Jagz. It was never really reported too much, but I'm fairly certain that was the case.

As for the FA list above, most of those guys are going to be restricted because there hasn't been an agreement on the new CBA. Brandon Marshall is in that boat as well as a couple other guys. Therefore, free agency may be a little tougher this year, which means we need to keep AB, even though I can't stand his effort when he has to battle a CB for a ball.

8:38am, January 5, 2010

buccaneers1978

really wilfork and kampman there is a reason there gone next year wilfork may have 2 years left of play but kampman is a wrap. We need Brandon Marshall trade one of our 2nd rounds and a 5th. if we can't get dez bryant or Suh or mcoy then i'm sorry we need to take mark ingram from bama

8:41am, January 5, 2010

remember when we passed on Adrian peterson for gaines adams lmao and see how that worked out for both of them mark my words watch Mark Ingram from bama dude is out of his mind. but you guys want eric berry to run around and play safety when we can get taylor mays who is just as good for less in the 2nd round

8:47am, January 5, 2010

Assuming that the Glazers made efforts to secure Cowher or other established NFL head coaches and were unsuccessful, I don't have a problem with this decision.

The team's not making the playoffs next season anyway and there may be a lockout in 2011.

Morris is cheap and if fans don't like it, vote with your feet and next season will definitely be his last.

8:52am, January 5, 2010

sunrisejeff

Considering Ingram is a sophmore and won't be coming out until next year it may be tough to pick him at number 3. Wilfork is only 28yrs old so I think he may have a little more than 2yrs left on his career.

8:58am, January 5, 2010

seat26

I think Cowher decided the money wasn't there for him to bring in the kind of staff that he demands, and not just here but most organizations.

He is making money like Gruden. They both stay out for awhile and come back when the time is right.

9:02am, January 5, 2010

1bucfanjeff

Because of the pending lockout for 2011 - we don't know what the Glazers - or any owners - are willing to do or not do, spend or not spend. We can only hope.

I'm glad Morris is returning, he deserves as much. Let us not forget the Owners had there hands in this years rebuilding project more than Raheem or Mark - they followed orders.

Now on to free agency and the draft. However we do it, DL must be #1 priority, WR opposite AB (re-sign him) should be #2. Teams only respected AB by sliding the safety to his side because we didn't have anybody else that scared them.

9:05am, January 5, 2010

bcrowell

Does anyone have an opinion on the idea of us going after Brandon Marshall? Maybe we can trade out one diva receiver for a new one.

Bringing Rah back was really the only option. All of the mistakes from 2009 are sunk costs. We can't get them back and there's no real better option out there. I was not a fan of hiring him but you can't argue with his ability to get the players to play hard which, if we'll all remember, was the big question mark at this time last year after we faded down the stretch.

Trade up and get Suh. Then make a 3 more impact picks + maybe 2 good free agents and 2010 looks promising.

9:43am, January 5, 2010

sunrisejeff

I like Marshall but don't think he'd be a good fit here, As a talent there is no doubt that he would vastly improve our WR corp.....however I think he needs to go to a team that has veteran leadership to keep him in check.

9:55am, January 5, 2010

JDouble

Bcrowell, I don't care if he is a diva, he is also a top 5 reciever in this league. If that dumbass head coach in Denver wants to keep trading away his playmakers, then I hope we jump on it.

If we could swap first round picks with Denver, pointwise it would equal to the 18th pick of the first round. We would get a great reciever in Marshall and could still take a top DT at 10, while the Broncos could take Dez Bryant and immediatly replace Marshal. They might even be interested in one of the top two QBs. I don't think Orton is the QB McDaniels wants to bet his coaching career on.

Anyways, if we can work out any trade where we swap 1st round picks and pick up Boldin or Marshal, I think it would be awesome.

You are an assho** of major proportions.

You people who wanted Ra fired make no sense what-so-ever. The guy was given a REBUILDING football team. New OC, DC, new players, young players, rookie QB, new schemes, etc... No one expected the playoffs. It was a learning, evaluating season.

I do not know if Raheem will be a great coach one day, he might not be or he might be, but at the very least, he deserves this offseason and next year (at least several games into it) to show the direction and improvement of this young team. If he can't do it, then fire him.
But you don't do it now.

It is the ADHD mentatlity of you losers. With your mentality you would have fired Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, and many other great coaches.

10:00am, January 5, 2010

1bucfanjeff

I don't see us involved in trading our pick. What we do all depends on the Rams, because I believe the Bucs want Suh or McCoy - and both could be gone.

Marshall? I would take him but we have to sign AB too. We need 2 good WR's. That limits double teams and creates mismatches.

The problem with any FA's is the CBA. 212 players could become unrestricted FA's if the CBA is extended. Otherwise they are restricted.

BUC FANS-

STOP SAYING WE ARE GOING TO TRADE SABI AND CLAYTON TO HELP US MOVE UP TO GRAB SUH. Both of these players are garbage and amount to heavily overpriced 5th round picks.

Ownership is not going to trade up to draft Suh because they don't want to have to pay $20 MILLION more in guaranteed money. The Clausen injury news further increases Bradford's value and, with a good combine, teams will at least offer up something to Dominik to move up and swap picks.

This team has so many needs you can't give up a top 50 pick. IT DEMONSTRATES HOW SHORTSIGHTED SOME OF THESE BLOGGERS ARE. Part of the reason the bucs suck right now is because we gave up so many picks for Gruden and Keyshawn. DOES NO ONE REMEMBER THIS. 2x first rounders and 2x second rounders for gruden and 2x first rounders for Keyshawn. You build through the draft period and hoard your picks.

11:58am, January 5, 2010

ILoveMeSomeFire - yep, and I have some nice swamp land I'd like to sell you.

cremdonado - I agree with you, except we have a ways to go before we can aspire to mediocre.

drt1066 - Apparently more than you who is willing to settle for more of the same.

Louie - I'm with you, this smells suspiciously of Culverhouse and Richard Williamson.

sunrisejeff - Finally, someone with some brains who knows what these boards are all about.

ILoveMeSomeFire - I love you lecturing people about being so mature and then you go on in your next posts to show how immature you are. Hilarious.

OK These are my 2 cents worth, which is all it's worth since none of us are owners and coaches and clearly what the fans think doesn't matter to them. This comes as no surprise. With a possible lock-out in 2011 and already owing Gruden a ton of money, the Glazers were not going to sign a multiyear contract to a coaching staff that would be guaranteed even if there is no football two years from now. The current coaching staff is only under contract for one more year so the owners lose nothing if they bomb next year. The owners showed this year that they don't care if the stadium is half empty because there were no blackouts because technically all the games were sellouts. Culverhouse helped engineer revenue sharing to make sure that it doesn't matter if stadiums are empty, the owners still make their money.

Because it is all about money and the Bucs have so many needs, I would be stunned if the Bucs trade up to get Suh. In fact, it's more likely that they trade down to get more draft picks and to avoid the big price tag that goes with a top 3 selection when there is no guarantee they will pan out.

While everyone is conviced that Gruden and Allen made decisions in a vacuum, you only need to go back and read old articles on PR from previous drafts that showed that it was collective effort and they depended heavily on the evaluations of the scouting department. Those people are still there and are headed up by Dennis Hickey. Remember the interview with him last Spring? He never answered a single question and he deflected responsibility for bad drafts. Yet he is the one evaluation talent and making the recomendations to Dummynick and RahRah Fast-Talker.

Bottom line is that it is what it is. Rah is still the coach and the good news is that he couldn't possibly make as many boneheaded moves as he did this year. Let's see how well he does next year.

Finally, the Bucs are my team win or lose. I will be in the stands cheering them on and supporting them. However, I reserve the right to complain when they make stupid mistakes.

Great..... Get ready for 4-12.

The Glazers say they have a plan. The plan is to be as cheap as possible. With no cap next year that means no floor either. Watch out for the free fall!

It really sucks having the worse owners in the league.

To all the fans out there with high hopes, I feel sorry for all you pinheads. You actually believe in the bullcrap being handed down by the Glazers. Go ahead with your wishful thinking and oh by the way I have some real nice property for sale in the Everglades.

I wanna hear the explanaition from all you guys claiming the Glazers won't spend money and don't care about the team...for we offered Haynesworth $120 million last year? Why did they fire a coach and a GM when they new it would still coast them $8 million a year? Why did they allow Dom to trade for Winslow and give him a big contract? Why have they kept Caddie and continued to pay him his big rookie contract, when no one thought he'd really come back?

Maybe we haven't spent alot because we have drafted shitty players that don't deserve big contract extensions?

Pttarps and JDouble - I agree with you on the owners not being as cheap as reputation now has us to believe. I said the same thing about a month ago but no one seemed to care.

I basically have nothing to add to support your argument that they aren't being cheap for the sake of being cheap, except to say they even allowed the mediocre Clayton to get another healthy contract. I don't think the Glazers are big spenders, but they aren't being cheap just to be greedy either. I just think they're wise spenders, which is how their family got rich in the first place.

Well said johnnyred and that's a good point charbeth2. I'm a diehard Buc fan and have been since 1997 (I followed Warrick Dunn out of FSU). And we as fans have the right to cheer as well as criticize our team when they suck! If Josh Freeman can clean up his decision making and his accuracy he's going to be good really good. But hes going to need some consistency out of the O-line and receivers. I'm kind of up in the air about keeping Greg Olsen if we keep him fine, if we don't ok. Did someone mention Sabby (aka Toast because he gets burned so much)? He need to work on his tackling and coverage skills. Hopefully Jermaine Phillips will be back next season!
